I don’t know if happy is the right word I’d use. I don’t really care who owns the NY Mets. As long as the owners really care about winning and aren’t just owning the team to make money.
I think the Wilpons fall into this category. Fred said he does watch all games he can and he does live and die with every win/loss. I believed that was sincere. He also said he didn’t own the team looking to make mega bucks off it. I do believe he wants the team to win as much as we do. He’s spent money on this team and I believe he will again when finances are straightened out – if they do get straightened out.
The problem is Jeff. I think there is a big difference between father and son. And given the fact that someday Jeff will own this team, that could be a problem going forward.

I don’t really care who’s sitting in the owner’s box. I don’t really care how much they spend on payroll. I want to see the team recover from years of bad decisions to become one that wins some World Series trophies and is a serious contender every season.

Even Jeff is smart enough to realize that winning is better, no matter what your goal is. Make more money? Feel the adrenaline rush of a packed house? Feel all important in front of the adoring fans? Feel like a genius, and get lots of fawning press?
winning and going to the playoffs lead to all of these things. And that is why I never understood the people that rant and rave about how Fred doesn’t care about winning (or Sandy for the matter).
as noted, the bigger issue has been putting the right team in place to make it happen. Will Jeffy cede control to a professional BB man to run the organization and make the decisions? That would be the key, not who is in the owners box.
Now that the basic finances have been stabilized, if the team can get some of the newer talent to click, generate some buzz to intrigue the fans, and get some more asses in the seats (win back the 500K-1mill they lost), the team will be in fantastic shape $ wise to compete with the rest of the league (meaning the Phils spending wise).
Just need the will to get the foundation firmed up before trying to build the house on top of it.

The devil you know can be better than the devil you don’t. That being said, they spend money, so payroll won’t be the issue, the issue has been who to spend it on. By the end of this season I feel Sandy has his shot to prove what he and company can do. I don’t feel the coffers will suddenly open and believe when he says payroll will be the function of revenue. So they will start to slowly to ramp up again, and next off-season shouldn’t be as putrid as this one.
As for making money, this is a business. If the team doesn’t make money then it essentially folds or gets taken away. They have to run it to make money. They need to horde some cash. There will always be ebb and flows with revenue, so they need to make those decisions better as well.
Seems to me like some feel just because he is rich he should run the team in the red and just keep taking more money from his pocket to cover it. That attitude is ludicrous in my opinion.

Agreed. That’s why I’ll never understand the Wilpons are cheap moniker. Some try to spin the not going overslot to show they’re cheap, but I think that was a philosophy, more so than not wanting to spend extra money.

I don’t care, but I am glad that the whole mess has been resolved and we can move on. Better for the team in the short run , and I was really tired of hearing about it!
New owners would have been interesting, but I don’t think it would have led to some miracle turn around.

Ugly game for Met pitching as a whole but Harvey’s lone inning of work was a disaster. Reading Rubin’s blog on quotes from him after that outing sounds like he’s definitely a work still in progress – and he knows it.
Mets offense not showing up either.

I’m glad the whole fiasco is over so we don’t have to hear about it constantly anymore. Who owns the team is irrelevant, though the Wilpons maintaining control pisses off rusty which amuses me.
With three smart baseball people at the helm, even if Alderson leaves in another year (which I believe he will), there is a good shot at having someone in place to make good baseball decisions for years to come. That’s the really important thing here. It’s not how much money you spend, and the Wilpons have not shied away from spending, it’s how you spend that money. Omar was awful at allocating resources.

Off topic, have you noticed what a circus Boston is already with Valentine at the helm? That kind of act would throw this Mets team into a complete 3 ring circus. Would make for some great NY Post back pages type stuff, but this team needs the utmost in stability after these turbulent months. I can’t personally remember if I was pro-Valentine when the search for the Mets skipper was in full swing, but hindsight being what it is, I’m certainly glag tey didn’t go that route.

Bobby does what Bobby needs to do depending on the circumstance. In Boston he needed to change the beat from their collapse and the stupidity around the clubhouse drinking story. He’s also playing Girardi like a violin getting under his skin already. Therby, the 3 ring circus is serving his purpose of getting last years collapse in the past and getting under the Yankee’s skin. He’s also dealing with a veteran squad so he can do these things without concern of impacting younger players that would require a different touch. If he was with the Met’s his approach would be much different. Most likely the Bobby the Mentor routine he’s played in the past.

Didn’t think there was any way in hell they were going to pay his price anyway. Last thing they were going to spend money on was a manager.

depends. You gonna give him a ML deal, and cut Pelf to put him in the rotation? Or stick him in the pen as the long man?
if he would take a MiL deal, no brainer. But that is why he is free (rejecting that).
No clue if any team will give him a real deal though. Guess he was smart to try, since worst that happens is he ends up in AAA anyway.

Yes and no, I mean the guy has been worse than Pelfrey most of his career. The only reason for signing him to a MLB deal and cutting Pelfrey would be to save cash because I would not expect better results.
