I expected more out of Niesen as well… Oh well.

Really or did you forget to use the sarcasm font?
I Barely remember his name. After looking him up he was abysmal last year in AA pitching in 27 games and going 28 IP, 0-5 with a 7.94 ERA. He had 5 years to make it so it looks like he was given enough of a shot.

At one point I thought he could be a serviceable bullpen arm. Again, oh well.

I remember Wagner working some with Stoner as his heir apparent.
So much for that.

Hmmm, I am not sure that is who you are thinking of 4D. I think Tobi was always slated to be a starter.
I think Wagner was working with Parnell?

On the opposite note…..I see we just signed Chris Young to a minor league contract.
Think I read somewhere he really wouldn’t be ready until about June but still a decent signing. Hey, if Johan can make his way back from that surgery maybe Young can as well.

I like it. for many reasons.
- potential depth for mid season when they likely need it for normal injury replacements.
- if things go really well, could free up someone for a trade (yes, wishing on Pelf)
- if will be fun to watch Alex’s head explode.

I’m not at all surprised by Stoner. If the farm system had been stronger a few years ago he probably wouldn’t have pitched in the big leagues. I’m a little surprised they gave up on Carr. He’s old and has had a lot of injuries, but he can throw serious heat and he was an FSL all-star last year. I would have thought they could put him in the upper levels this year to challenge him and then if he struggles release him.
Chris Hilliard is another guy that’s had some success in the minors, but he just doesn’t have the arm strength or the stuff to compete for a spot in the A-ball rotations against all the college arms they drafted last year. No one else is a big deal, even Niesen, who couldn’t even put up decent numbers at AA.
