The Mets official Twitter account announced that David Wright will miss tonight’s game with a bruised pinky finger. He apparently injured it diving into first base during a pickoff attempt. It swelled to the point where he couldn’t grip a bat.
He is day-to-day, and there is no definitive word on when he will return.
Ronny Cedeno will get the start at 3B tonight.

I love how the Mets have a SS playing 3B, a 1B playing 2B and a 2B playing 1B.
I know they want Murphy to get as many reps at 2B as possible, but with Wright and Davis out of the lineup, you have got to play the best defensive alignment you can.

well, this certainly sucks. Quite the buzz kill. Good thing it isn’t vs. Stras. Can’t they just tape it up, give him a shot, something?
I just have that bad (OK, fatalistic met fan) feeling that this is going to end up being a couple weeks out, followed by coming back all out of sync. I know, shouldn’t be like that, but at this point it is a conditioned response!
But if nothing else, we had that 4 game tease to prove that it is in there someplace.
Just wish it didn’t seem like in Awakening, when Robin WIlliams gives all the patients the El Dopo, before it wears off!

The other half of that feature image is Ollie injuring his brain.

Oh for crying out loud.
After getting off to this fast start I was wondering when the first shoe would drop. Who had 10 April in that pool?
Sigh…….

And it’s a fracture finger. Fracture in the middle joint.
‘Non operable injury’.
They will splint it and go from there.
Of course.

was there ever any doubt?
so at least 2 weeks on the DL, and what, likely a month?
This is just incredible how snakebit this team is.\
probably just took any chance of maintaining a quick start and keeping in contention and flushed it right down the drain.
and so, who plays 3B now? Can’t be turner every day. Lutz?
craptastic.

I have no idea who they’ll bring up.
Kind of curious they didn’t announce he’d be going to the DL. Maybe after the game they will.
Meanwhile our defense is just LOL tonight.

4D,
It just goes to show that the Achilles heel o’ the team will be the depth. Honestly, being without Wright for a couple few will be easier to handle than one of the SP going down for any amount of time. I realize that he is playing the cards dealt to him, but Alderson’s lack of SP is going to bite him this year.
And I agree with Collins in not switching Murph. Slap Turner over there. Keep Murph comfortable and he’ll continue to do “Go Big Murph” like things.

disagree.
You play your best defense. The only reason Murphy is put at 2B is because its the only place he can play and you need that bat in the lineup.
With Wright out, you can now play Murphy in his “better” position with Turner going to his best position…

You really want to start jacking with Murphy, who has had to learn 3 positions in 2 years because there is possibly a better day for a particular game? I’ll disagree with you sir. Still have a brew with you should our paths cross, but disagree with you none the less.

offer accepted although I believe the managers job is to put the team in the best position to win.
We are 4-1 and in first place. You don’t potentially sacrifice wins for one player, especially when Murphy’s tenure at 2B is only temporary…

You’re 1000000% right on the depth being the Achilles heel of the team. Anyone expecting no injuries to happen to the team is completely delusional, and the depth is horrendous.

well, that is true, but pretty much any team losing their best player is going to have a pretty steep drop off.

Honestly, it is scary. Luckily, the one guy they had tabbed to play a position had the incumbent go down (aka Neiweindhshuehcehensn). Now, should Thole or Tejada, or even Bay/Duda go down, never mind the SP, this team is a balsa wood house playing with matches and rubber cement. They are rocking it now (which I’m doing back flips about, contrary to my Dr.’s recommendations), but it’s a lot of ‘house of cards’ stuff at the moment. You hope they ride it long and hard, like a…. jockey (get your minds out of the gutter), and you hope the winning continues, but please lets not have 4 wins cloud our vision.

actually if Bay went down, that wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
Move Kirk to RF, Duda to LF and Valdespin in CF

Not getting SP depth – Young aside and we don’t even know if/when he can pitch – was my only real criticism of the off season. Especially given the finances. Most teams have 7 – 8 SP depth. Mets are lucky if they’ve got 6.

I agree, but not sure who else they could have gotten, unless they really wanted to ship Gee to AAA or the pen. Once you “locked in” the rotation, you really limited the options you had.
I assume if someone goes down, they will go out to pick up someone at that point? And likely just as good as they would have gotten 3 months ago.

man, Ike is useless right now. If this doesn’t change quickly, he is going to be getting platooned instead of Bay! Good thing he can still play D.
there is no reason he should see 1 FB the rest of this year. Not sure he has seen one since OD anyway, if then.

Just ugly all the way around tonight.
Ike looks bad.
Bay is bad.
Murph fobs 3 dp opportunities.
Oh, and we have to give Werth his first hit of the season, let alone 5?
Bah.

I still am not confident that Murphy can develop enough to hold the job.
and if not, honestly not sure what they will do with him, but if he is hitting like this, would be very difficult to sell a trade to the fan base.
should be interesting.
