Last Night on the Farm – April 12

So nice to be back with LNotF.  Now excuse me while a put a (re)cap in yo (web) cache.

Scranton 7, Buffalo 2

Chris Schwinden labored (4IP, 3R, 3H, 5BB, 3K)  through four innings and took the loss against the homeless Yankees.  Danny Hererra, part of the haul in the K-Rod deal, also gave up a run in two innings.  The offense sputtered, managing just four hits.  They did, however, work over the Yankee staff, drawing eight walks, six of them off starter (and Yankee top prospect) Many Banuelos.  Jordanny Valdespin and Josh Satin both scored runs, and Zach Lutz had an RBI

Binghamton 5, Portland, 1

After giving up a first inning homer, Colin McHugh settled down and went a total of 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and no walks while striking out six.  Elvin Ramirez and Josh Edgin combined to finish off the Sea Dogs with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.  Matt den Dekker went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, and Jefry Marte was 1 for 4 with three RBI.

Palm Beach 3, St. Lucie 1

Danny Muno led off the game with a home run, but that was it for the Lucie offense as the Mets fell to the Cardinals.  Robbie Shields stayed hot, going 2 for 4 with a double, while Cory Vaughn was held hitless.  Wilmer Flores left the game early. When I know more so will you.

Augusta 4, Savannah 0

Blech.  The Sand Gnats scratched out just four hits and made three errors in a slop filled loss to the GreenJackets. Rafael Montero took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) in five innings.  Augusta hurler, and possible true identity of Shakespeare?, Christopher Marlowe got the win.

Wilmer Flores update: He got hit in the hand in what was apparently was a check swing. He stayed in the game initially and was actually caught stealing after taking first base on the HBP. He played two innings in the field after getting hit before leaving the game. At the moment there is no word on if he will miss any time and how much.

he is rapidly cementing himself as a bust. At some point, after a couple thousand MiL ABs, being young and having quick hands isn’t enough to keep you in the game. Have to start producing eventually.

I hear you, the production has been disappointing. But the kid won’t turn 21 until August. There’s not too many 20-year olds in the Florida State League, so I think it’s still too early label him a bust.

See, the age thing IMO is overblown. What is important I think is professional experience.

that is why you see HS draftees and IFAs up in their early 20s more often than HS guys.

I seem to recall 1700 or 2000 PAs being the magic number for a MiL hitter before they should be called up. Well, Wilmer thru 2011 has 2,014. So he might be young for the FSL, but he is still a seasoned professional!

Just as a comparison, Captain Kirk only had 1,694 PAs. So Flores has over 300 more PAs than a guy considered ready for the majors.

2000 PAs IMO again is a lot of time to put up numbers, in addition to flashing tools.

I think Wheeler pitches today for BMets. Hopefully he has a better outing than his 1st one.

Salty, why are you poking at the meatballs on MMO?

    1. saltygary

Because I have a huge project that I need to get done, and don’t want to do it. I am being very respectful.

      1. saltygary

as respectful as I can when being called a racist…

        1. Stickguy

I haven’t been bothering to read the comments over there this week. sounds like I missed something good!

        2. NJstuckinTX

I love it when that card is pulled. You have to do it subtly, like Alex does. sigh…

    2. Prismo

Between Alex, Bayonne, and Pomes…why does anyone intelligent bother posting over there? You’re just going to get bombarded by complete and utter fools.

Again, I wish all my best to Joe D and his open site policy! Just…it’s not really a place (comments section, specifically) for any of the numerous MENSA members on RDM.

Mr N straightened me out and I have not been back there.

The ones you mention and a couple of others really are just the biggest fools I have ever seen at any Met site.

It’s mind-boggling to me that Joe D allows that to go on.

I am done visiting that cesspool of repetitive idiocy.

You would think the theory of conditioning (Pavlov’s Dog) would kick in after a while, but they still take the bait. Wasn’t really expecting anything to happen. I refer to Reyes as “paraplegic”, I am not expecting to get into a baseball discussion.
