Box score doesn’t tell the whole story on this game. Giants showing 3 errors and Mets none but really sloppy on both sides.
Great start by Pelf. I would have preferred he start the 9th but credit TC for not sticking with FF who was about to blow the lead. Brydak and Rauch di their job, Kirk did not.
Great slide by Hairston.
Bay, Duda and Ike still killing the middle of the line up.
Win is a win, no matter.

We took in our first game at Citifield today. And watching the play with the full field view was just bizarre. From our view along the LF line it played out as Kirk coming in but being indecisive at first since you had Ruben fading back like he was going to have a chance at the play but really didn’t while Murph was angling in from second but had no business even giving chase. So, what ultimately happened I believe is Kirk seeing both infielders in the play came in too far gauging the ball must have been closer to the infield with the SS & 2B making moves on the ball. So his last burst to make up ground he came in too far. Also, for the only time the entire game the ninth had the wind start to pick up and move the ball which made it more difficult. I’m positive if the infielders weren’t in the neighborhood he would have tracked it and put it in his back pocket. But it got crowded fast and he defered to the SS too much on his first steps too the ball. Then he saw they weren’t going to get it and overpursued.

Whatever his motives are Kirk has to play the ball until someone calls him off it and apparently Tajada never did. It’s the centerfielder’s ball and he has to take charge. He’ll learn. The way the ball was played for just a second I thought Duda was the Centerfielder.
Anyway I hope you had a great time. It’s a lovely ballpark.

Thanks GG and agreed, and Kirk will learn. What I was actually surprised at was Duda actually looked really comfortable in the field yesterday. On TV I sit there biting my nails on anything hit to RF but he had really good reads, especially on the Sandoval drive to the wall in the first. He moved back on it confidently. Still an adventure no doubt, but was better than I thought.

It reminded me of a Beer League game.

the FB looked like a communications issue. They will get better with time together. People downplay IMO the value in having guys play many games together, from knowing what to do.
from seeing the replay, Kirk was super deep (no doubles D) so had a long way to come. i don’t think he was expecting Tejada to be intruding. You could see when Kirk realized he was there, and he took a look. Once he looked back up to find the ball, he had come in too far.
sure he should have been hollering him off, and plowing over him if needed, but he is only in his what, 2nd week in the majors?

I saw the same thing watching on TV that Has saw at the field. Agree with you that communication needs to get better and will over time.
One thing that impressed me on that play was Kirk’s speed. Playing very deep for no doubles theory, he not only made it in to short center, he over ran it by a couple of steps. I have no doubt watching these games with Kirk in center that he can play a more than competent CF.

He was deep and shaded to the RF gap with the lefty at bat. The ground he covered was crazy, and then to over run it was oohfah…
I hate to pile on Bay but he had half the distance Kirk had to go but got sucked in too by watching Tejada drift back on the ball that kept getting pushed further into the OF with the wind that picked up.
