Yesterday Mike Pelfrey not only pitched a great game but also had the pleasure of watching his team almost lose it. So let me ask you, do you think Terry Collins over managed that ninth inning? Do you think he should’ve let Pelfrey finish the game?
Bonus Question: Bobby Valentine had a real rough week in Boston. After yesterday’s complete collapse of the Red Sox, ( they squandered a 9 run lead and lost). Do you think Bobby V. will last the season up in Beantown?

I thought Terry over managed having Thole bunt in I believe the 7th to move guys over for Tejada but it worked out. I didn’t get giving up an out to move guys over for the bottom of the line up when you’ve got a guy hitting .371 on the young season.
Yes, Pelf should have been left in for at least one batter in the ninth. If he gets him give him another, if not then pull him out and let him get the ovation leaving. After the Pelf piling on, obviously myself included, it would have been a nice moment if he could have closed the deal and gotten the big O finishing. There was also much moaning about taking Byrdak out after striking out his batter. Would have left him in too since his stuff looked nasty and he was getting swings and misses.
Bobby, I am sorry to say, will not last. He has been one of my fav managers but he’s completely lost his mind with how he’s handled the Sawx. His early moves to get the focus off of Beergate were fine but he lost sight of the fact that he has a veteran roster that needed to be handled differently and I believe he’s completely lost the team and his last chance as manager in MLB. Eerily to me, reminiscent of T. Collins losing the Angels in some way.

I wasn’t crazy about having Josh Thole bunt in the 7th, but it worked.
I won’t argue with Collins’ choice to pull Pelfrey from the game after eight innings. Pelfrey had reached 102 pitches, and baseball has trained starters to come out of the game at that point.
Besides, our “closer” couldn’t get the job done with a three-run lead and no one on base… how much worse would things have gone if he came in with inherited runners?
As far as Bobby Valentine up in Boston, he’s going to need a playoff appearance to have any chance of keeping his job past this season. (And if he doesn’t learn to stop putting his foot in his mouth, he might not last until Memorial Day.)

Even though I didn’t much care for Pelf not starting the 9th, I’ll give Terry credit for pulling Francisco when he realised he wasn’t shutting them down. Game was on the line at that point, which is all that should be taken into consideration.

I would have much preferred Pelf come out to start the ninth, even after hearing TC’s reasoning for not. What struck me though with his comments was either TC thinks Pelfrey’s confidence is that fragile or it really is so. These ML’s are sometimes so fragile it’s ridiculous.
Bobby V…..even though he’s not responsible for that roster construction, he’s obviously making matters worse. One thing to run off at the mouth pinging your rival team but your own players? I don’t know what he’s thinking. If the Red Sox don’t turn it around soon, I’ll bet Bobby is the first casualty.

well, anyone that was in the dugout for the 9th inning should know how I feel!
Yes, he overmanaged. And even worse, he went back into the psycho babble area. Manage to win, no protect your fragile flowers.
The whole building confidence thing? This is not HS or low minors with fresh recruits. FF and Pelf are seasoned veterans at this point. And Terry still thinks he has to protect them, even though it could be putting a game at risk?
Somehow the logic of taking out a guy that is locked in and cruising for a guy that has been pitching like crap recently escapes me.
And even getting into the “confidence” thing, to me it sends the totally wrong message. Basically terry told pelf “we think you can’t do it, and aren’t strong enough to handle it, so we have to avoid giving you a chance to succeed to avoid the possibility you might fail”
what happened to the pat on the back, you got this, you the man, build confidence that way? And you wonder why Pelf starts looking into the dugout as soon as a guy gets on?
and finally, when you do this, it just wears out the pen more, so when arms start falling off in July, you know why!
Bobby V? at least 1 year, but that could be it in some kind of “irreconcilable difference” mutual parting.

Pelf threw 102 pitches. It is April.
A closer pitching the 9th is wearing out the pen?
Thin ice my friend, thin ice.

I didn’t see the game so I’ll just speak about one of my man-crushes in Bobby V.
This is a story that was created by the media the day he was hired and has been taken up by a fan base that have shorter memories then us Mets fans.
Last year at this time the Sox were 8-11 and finished the month 11-15, 4.5 games back of first. They also had one of the worst collapses in MLB history to finish out the year. Maybe the team just stinks.
Everyone is looking for a goat as opposed to a solution and until a Sox player stands up for Bobby to the media and shows some accountability, this story will not end unless they decide to play well. The issue is the players don’t trust him yet so no-one is going to have the guts to stick their neck out to try and flame out the story.

You know what they say about Hindsight. Is TC supposed to be afraid to use his closer? Pelf threw I think 102 pitches. Could he have thrown a few more? Maybe. But it is April. it is a long season and Pelf is a huge part of this team’s hopes for a decent season. Anything wrong with pulling him there? Absolutely not.
Bobby V took the wrong job. An aging team in a very tough division. He should have taken the Marlin job earlier or waited for another one.
