Mike Pelfrey Done For Season

A surprise to absolutely no one, Mike Pelfrey has found a new way to disappoint. I’m sure this Tommy John surgery will get his career on the right track. Just kidding. It clearly won’t.

But in all honesty, this is a big blow. We just lost our 3rd (4th?) pitcher in the rotation and now will have some choices to make as far as who will fill the spot. All I can say is I hope it isn’t Batista, maybe we can get a look at some of the young guys.

Best wishes to Mike as he recovers.

    Suck for Big Pelf.

Good luck to you Mike. Hope you’re on the road to recovery soon.

Chris Young probably isn’t an option in the majors til at least June, assuming he’s fine and full recovered from his injury. So unless someone good hits the waiver wire they’re gonna have to live with Schwinden and/or Hefner for a solid month.

It’s going to take more than a couple good outings out of Harvey for him to get called up. He’ll have to show he’s proficient at AAA for at least a couple months before he can fill that spot in the rotation.

IMO the Mets will have to go into the market for a recently retired or cut major league level pitcher. Somebody who can get them into the filth with a 50-50 chance of the game still being under control. If a guy like Andy Petit can come back the Mets may be able to find somebody too. Its the fast route without any trade or waiver hassles.

I for one don’t see anyone on the farm who is not going to be hurt long term being pressed into service.before their time. Looking good in a few innings or games is not the same as the show in July and Aug,

        To add a note.
My concerns with Schwinden is his 13/9 K/BB ratio. That’s not a warm and fuzzy.

off the top of my head, the only guy I can think of is Roy Oswalt. He’s still available, right?

but at this point, anyone that hasn’t been pitching probably won’t be ready any sooner than Chris young, who is likely the best shot at finding your type of guy.

Oswalt will be in St. Loo in a month. My useless prediction o’ the day.

Schwinden and/or Hefner and batten down the hatches.

just figures though for both the Mets and Pelf, that when he finally looks like he might have it figured out, this happens.

So, hopefully the depth (schwinden/heffner) can keep them in games, at least until Young is ready (if he gets there).

The bigger worry is, this wasn’t the SP that they were supposed to need depth for!

But, knock wood, if Johan is for real, the rotation is still pretty solid, with a very good top 3, an OK to occasionally pretty good 4, and now w roll the dice 5. But, not many teams go 5 (even 4) deep with really good pitchers.

Daily New Live tonight on SNY had the talking heads saying that it appears the Mets have a very good 1-3 in the rotation and should be able to compete with them.
Went on to say they’re better than the 1-3 across town. Haha.

I pay so little attention, that other than the fat man, I have no clue who is in their rotation.

          LOL….
Right now it’s Phil Hughes – who isn’t doing so well. He’s got something like a 7.90 ERA
Kuroda, who is off to a slow start and hasn’t looked all that good.
Nova, who is doing pretty well.
Garcia, who I’m hearing will be gone when Pettitte returns as he’s got almost a 10.0 ERA.

The Yankees lost Pineda to season ending shoulder surgery and that kid’s talent dwarfs that of Pelfry and rivals the best the Mets have in the minors. What the Yankees do have is the ability to fall behind 9-0 and put up back to back 7 run innings.

until they get to the playoffs and face real pitching.

Unfortunately in the NL east at best they’re the 3rd best 1-3.

Yeah, I don’t think the were implying our 1-3 is the same as Halladay/Lee/Hamels. Other than Johan – who all are still keeping their fingers crossed on – the track record is just not there.

However, in this young season so far they were saying the results of our 1-3 are certainly competitive enough to play with the big boys.

Are they really the 3rd best?

I’d have to think 4th, no?
