Yesterday I – along with a handful of my fellow Mets blogger brethren were invited to attend Terry Collins pre-game press conference as well as watching batting practice from the Mets dugout and seats for last night win over the Marlins.
Here is video from Terry’s presser. He discussed both Jason Bay’s Mike Pelfrey’s injury status amongst other topics.
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:
One of the many “players that got away”, outfielder – Amos Otis is 65 (1947) . To understand what I am alluding to just look up the Amos Otis for Joe Foy trade on the Internet to understand what I mean.
One of the most disliked former Mets ( amongst Mets fans), starting pitcher, Mike Scott is 57 (1955). It might have been that he discovered the split finger fastball after he left the Mets – or the allegations that he doctored the ball but either way he always found a way to stifle the Mets bats.
Reserve outfielder from the ’89-’90 seasons, Lou Thornton is 49 (1963).
Middle reliever from the ’96-’97 seasons, Rick Trlicek is 43(1969) .
Reliever from the ’02-’03 seasons, Scott Strickland is 36(1976).
Sadly on this date in 2003, reserve outfielder from the ’65-’66 seasons, Danny Napoleon passed away.
The New York Mets purchased the contract of catcher, Harry Chiti from the Cleveland Indians on April 26, 1962.
The New York Mets traded outfielder, Bobby Gene Smith to the Chicago Cubs for reserve catcher, Sammy Taylor on April 26, 1962.
The New York Mets purchased the contract of spot starter/middle reliever, Jack Lamabe from the Chicago White Sox on April 26, 1967.
The New York Mets traded minor league shortstop, Rick Auerbach to the Texas Rangers for third baseman/outfielder,Lenny Randle on April 26, 1977. Lenny was a volatile player in his years with the Rangers ( he was traded to the Mets after knocking out his manager). He had one good season with the Mets in ’77, but Randle struggled offensively in 1978. He was released during spring training of ’79.
New York Mets released middle reliever, Mike Matthews on April 26, 2005.
The New York Mets signed free agent reserve outfielder, Michael Tucker on April 26, 2006.

Very cool, Rusty.
On the post game pressure last night, they asked TC if there was any update on Pelfrey. He hesitated a minute and said something like: ‘sorry, I forgot to check. Game started and I just forgot to get an update for you guys’.
Still don’t see any updated status this morning anywhere.

saw something on cerronetypo.com about expecting an answer from Dr. Tommy John today.
Of course he is going to say do the surgery. That’s what he does. Like asking Earl Scheib if your car could us a paint job.

An interesting fact about Harry Chiti:
“On April 25, 1962—before he even played a game for the Indians—Chiti was acquired by the expansion New York Mets for a player to be named later. However, he was sent back to the Indians on June 15, 1962 after 15 games and a .195 batting average. Since Chiti was the “player to be named later,” he thus became the first player ever traded for himself.”
