This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The “Tim Byrdak Meets The Mets Bloggers” Edition 04-27-12

This past Wednesday I, along with a few of my blogger brethren had the pleasure to interview Mets middle reliever, Tim Byrdak. Byrdak discussed everything from how he prepares for a game to his quick recovery from surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee.

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

One of the best hitters in baseball history- and the first Mets hitting coach, Rogers Hornsby would have been 116 (1896) .

Mets second baseman from ’81-’83, Brian Giles is 52 (1960).

Middle reliever from the ’96 season, Rob MacDonald is 47 (1965).

Middle reliever from’92-’94, Eric Hillman is 46 (1966).

Long Island native and Mets reserve outfielder from the ’10 season, Frank Catalanotto is 38 (1974).

Middle reliever from ’03-’04 Orber Moreno is 35 (1977)
.
The catcher, New York Mets signed free agent Yogi Berra on April 27, 1965. Yogi would appear in 4 games as a Mets before re-retiring and taking a job on the Mets coaching staff.

The New York Mets sold the contract of reserve shortstop,Luis Alvarado to the Detroit Tigers on April 27, 1977.

Mo Vaughn had fried fish yesterday – he’s looking to dine on Rocky Mountain Oysters this weekend !!!

Thanks for sharing, Rusty. That was cool. Couldn’t hear all the questions – except for the guy with big microphone – but could hear Brydak well.
Love that guy, he was a good pickup. I’m amazed at how older guys like him and Chipper have bounced back so quick from surgery and some younger guys…..not so much. I realize not all surgeries are the same but still. Look at Wagner and his TJ surgery. I think if they had let him he would have been back on the mound before 12 months.

Agree on Wags. I think there might have been a vesting option for appearances which may have played into possibly not wanting him back sooner.

Having seen Byrdak in Houston, he was not good. So, maybe like fine wine, he just took some time to reach his peak.

Had to post my silly thought for the day:
Earth meet Humber, Humber meet Earth.

that’s one reason I don’t get all worked up about he Mets not having a no hitter yet. So many of them are flukes/luck, and really don’t mean anything. More important is that they have really good SP, that you are surprised haven’t thrown one!

They do have a lot of 1 hitters. That must mean something, right?

      1. Hazmet

Yeah, me too. Many love to rail on about ex Mets who have a no no.

They included Nomo on the list that could trumpeted after Humber achieved his notable accomplishment. Really, Nomo? He was with the Mets for like 10 minutes relatively.

Off for the day, have a great weekend all. I’ll wave to knog as I pass Saratoga ;)

Silly thought #2: With that picture is Byrdak the entire package? Little too much detail for me.

      Tim is a rip.
