Mets option Valdespin, Activate Carrasco

Socks=awesome.

According to multiple reports, the Mets have optioned Jordany Valdespin to Buffalo and activated DJ Carrasco from the DL.

Carrasco hurt his ankle in spring training, and his activation was clearly on the horizon, no surprise here. This also means that Vinny Rottino’s spot on the roster should be set for now.

Thoughts? And don’t forget to read Connor’s recap, good stuff that you don’t want to miss.

    I guess it means they’re comfortable with Turner as the backup SS if they need to use him, cause I figured Rottino would head back to Buffalo b/c Valdespin was needed as the backup SS. Now if Bay comes off the DL before Cedeno they can send Rottino down and not have to make a decision about whether to keep Kirk in the big leagues or not.

    As for Carrasco, he had to come off the DL at some point and he’s been pretty solid in his rehab assignments. Plus, this bullpen could use a guy that can eat up some innings.

    Expected, Jordany should have never been up to start with. Now he can go get some more ab’s and work on the dreaded 3 letter word…. OBP.

    Well, now they’ve replaced Schwinden’s spot with Carrasco and Valdespin’s with Rottino. Look at it that way. Adding another right-handed hitter to the bench is important to give Terry Collins more flexibility. Also, it was too early to have Valdespin up. Why have him if he’s going to ride the bench?

    glad they kept Vinny. No idea why of course, but I think it gives them a little more flexibility.

    wonder when Cedeno is coming back? Somehow turner as the BU SS is not that comforting…

    I don’t have a problem with bringing up Carrasco. Maybe he’ll continue to pirch like he was doing down there – ’cause he sure was awful last year.
    Problem now is that 5th rotation spot right now. I’m sorry but the can’t possibly be thinking about throwing Batista out there for the month of May. I think age has caught up to him. He’s not effective at all.

    Crossing their fingers waiting for Young to be ready can’t be the plan. What if Young has a set back? Don’t know what the solution is.
