Last night on the farm the Bisons had 8 total hits as they got swept in a double header while the B-Mets were equally as anemic on offense in support of Darin Gorski. But once you’re done reading about that you’ll get to hear about Michael Fulmer’s first pro win and how utterly dominating Cory Vaughn has been this year.
Rochester 2, Buffalo 1 Game 1, 7 innings
Dylan Owen let up 2 runs (1 earned) as the Herd dropped game 1 of a double header. Four singles was all the Bisons could muster, and it wasn’t enough.
Rochester 5, Buffalo 0 Game 2, 7 innings
The Herd didn’t fair much better in game 2. Garrett Olson didn’t get out of the 4th inning, giving up 3 runs. Josh Edgin pitched an inning and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits, although he did strike out 3. Just like game 1, the Bisons had only 4 singles, as they’re offense has been stagnant lately. Jordany Valdespin coming back should help, although Zach Lutz has been mysteriously MIA for the past few days.
Harrisburg 2, Binghamton 1
Darin Gorski started and was his usual self, lasting 6 innings and giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 4. Jeff Kaplan and Robert Carson combined for 3 shutout innings from the bullpen, but the B-Mets couldn’t get going offensively with both Matt Den Dekker and Jefry Marte getting the day off.
St. Lucie 5, Dunedin 3
Cory Mazzoni’s ERA stayed at an even 3 after he pitched 6 innings and gave up 2 runs. He walked 2 and had just 1 strikeout. Adam Kolarek got a blow save by allowing a runner inherited from Taylor Whitenton to score, but he also got the win after pitching 2 innings and striking out 3. Adrian Rosario struck out the side in the 9th for his 7th save of the year. Robbie Shields led the way offensively, going 3 for 4 with a homerun. Cory Vaughn and Blake Forsythe also homered. It was Vaughn’s 8th of the season, although he struck out in his other 3 at bats. Vaughn leads the FSL in homers and slugging, and it’s not even close. He has 3 more homers than anyone else in the league and is currently slugging 35 points better than anyone else, and only 2 guys are within 100 points of his slugging percentage.
Savannah 5, Lakewood 3
Michael Fulmer had arguably his best start as a professional and picked up his first professional win. Fulmer went 5 scoreless innings, giving up just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. The bullpen gave up 3 unearned runs but managed to hold on for the win. Travis Taijeron continued, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s. All 8 of the Gnats hits were singles, but it was enough to produce 5 runs and overcome 3 errors committed in the field.

Man seems like every night I am hearing only good things about Vaughn & Taijeron. Keep it up guys. Another month like this and promotions are just about guaranteed to follow.

I really want to see Gorski up with the big club, and soon. Just have a feeling he is the closest to ready and has the best chance to actually be effective. I’m sure it isn’t going to happen of course, but maybe a promotion to AAA at some point?
If nothing else, there could be an actual interesting battle next spring in ST for 1-2 rotation spots. I like to see that, instead of going into camp with all of them guaranteed.
and they really may need to make a move to promote Cory and Travis before the mid-year league breaks. At some point, it gets silly keeping them down. Heck, Travis (no, not trying to spell his last name) may be worth a 2 level jump this year (maybe with a short pit stop in PSL)

definitely agree on Gorski. They really dropped the ball on not promoting him mid-season last year, and considering that they may need rotation and will have to add him to the 40 after the season anyway there’s no sense in keeping him in AA any longer than they have to.
