This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Oh Tom Where Art Thou ?” Edition 05-06-12

Sorry for the lack of production of late – a lot of stuff going down at Casa De Rusty
but that should change shortly.

Yesterday I was at Citi Field for Tom Seaver Bobble head Day. It was an overcast day yet it was great to be on hand to see Johan Santana’s first win since 2010. But there was in my opinion one major disappointment – that being the absence of the “Franchise“.

I do not know if Seaver was scheduled to attend the original bobblehead day whch was rained out two weeks ago or he had a conflict in his schedule, but to have a day honoring the best pitcher in Mets history and not having him attend rang a tad bit hollow.

Yes there were video tributes and Tom Seaver trivia between the innings but the (in my opinion) 20,000 fans that were in attendance seemed a bit confused that he wasn’t there.

I just hope that this is not the case for the other scheduled bobble head days this season ( Edgardo Alfonzo, Rusty Staub, Mike Piazza and Keith Hernandez).

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes :
One of the greatest men to ever play the outfield ( and briefly as a Mets) Willie Mays is 80(1931).

Mets outfielder from’98-’00, Mike Kinkade is 39 (1973).

Sadly on this date in 2005 one-time Scouting Director of the Mets farm system, Pete Gebrian passed away.

The New York Mets traded original third baseman, Don Zimmer to the Cincinnati Reds for relief pitcher, Bob Miller and outfielder, Cliff Cook on May 6, 1962.

The New York Mets traded first baseman/outfielder, Jim Marshall to the Pittsburgh Pirates for middle reliever,Vinegar Bend Mizell on May 6, 1962.

If Tom Seaver is “The Franchise” then Mo Vaughn is the commissary !!!

I’ll bet it was what you suggested – conflict in schedule with this rescheduled game.

I’m assuming you were one of the lucky fans to get one of those bobble heads.

Those bobble-heads were really cool. Laughed when the Fox booth showed Karros with 2 of them for his kids.

I love that the Dodgers are having an Eirc Karros bobble-head day. All the guys that played for the Dodgers in LA, and they pick him?

Seaver was running amok, sans shoes, squashing those grapes like this classic scene from I Love Lucy:
