A Look At The NL East Record At The Start Of The 8th & 9th Innings

Earlier Rich Coutinho in an article mentioned that the Mets are 14-1 when leading after seven innings and 15-0 when leading after eight. I am not sure if the 15-0 was a typo since it seems B-R says they are 14-0 but in any case I wanted to display what the NL East is when ahead, tied or behind at the start of the 8th & 9th innings.

If you click on each team’s link B-R notes the following statistics,

    Comeback Wins
    Largest Comeback
    Blown Leads
    Largest Blown Lead
    Walk-off Wins
    Walk-off Losses

My question is does anyone know what criteria exactly B-R decides to use for Blown Leads? Cause it says the Mets have 4 blown leads.

The rest of the NL East goes as follows:
    Blown Leads
    Phillies – 8
    Marlins – 7
    Braves – 5
    Nationals – 5

I would assume it’s games where the Mets had the lead (at any point) and ended up losing the game.

I doubt they’re counting games where the Mets had a lead, lost it, but won the game anyway.

Just guessing here. Don’t feel like wading through box scores to check it out.

Awesome, thanks. So by the principle of replacing part of the URL….we get the results for 2011.

        Mets vs >=.500 teams: 38-44
        Mets vs < .500 teams: 39-41

The Mets need to play better against poor teams, and after the Houston series it appears that trend isn't behind the team. I think this is a crucial part of a winning season.

Wow, those numbers for the Nats having 6 wins when trailing late are crazy–and definitely cannot continue.
