This from Rich Coutinho:
“The Mets are 14-1 when leading after seven innings and 15-0 when leading after eight, which speaks to both the bullpen and their ninth-inning offense (New York has outscored their opponents 15 to 8 in the final frame this season).”

This speaks to how good of an acquisition Phrank Phrancisco has been. Clearly one of Sandy’s best signings. Just a complete beast on the mound. For players it’s like staring a rhino in the eyes with no fence to hide behind for protection.

quite the change from (recent) past years, where it seemed like they could score some runs early, but by the 6th inning on it was guaranteed goose eggs for the Mets, and a nail biter as the other team came back.

Wow, Talk about a TEAM.
Individual and overall traditional stats are OK, but the above is simply amazing, as are the 2-out stats on offense, and the amazing record in 1- and 2-run games.
What a great run thus far.
If they can just win 2 of 3 this weekend…and with the big 3 (well, OK, the big 2) starters going, it can be done.
Magic number for the WC is 131.

Always sir.
When needed it will be gassed up, the bar will be stocked, it will be shiny and fully operative, and ready to roll.
Seriously, I can get it out of the pawn shop really, really quickly.

I dislike the whole “record in 1 or 2-run games” stat. All that means to me is the Mets either BARELY win games or get BLOWN OUT.

To me, the problem with it is that it is not sustainable.
A few years back the Nats got off to a great start the first couple of months, winning an unsustainable pct of 1-run games, and totally tanked the second half.
The numbers the Mets are putting up in these games, with 2 outs, etc., are not sustainable, and their overall mediocre team stats across the board other than BA and OBP definitely suggest that we should keep our hopes and dreams about 2012 reasonable.
.500 is the reasonable goal.
