great game. until Ike’s bonehead play taking the safety net away. And fat frankie gagging it away.

though really, not sure the 8th inning run made a difference, since the way fat F was throwing meatballs, the Marlins could have scored an unlimited amount of runs.

How many of these before people start calling for Rauch? And then come the Parnell calls…

saw some rauch calls tonight. and parnell has been on some minds for a while. But, I think we are stuck on Frankie for now.

You have unwittingly uncovered the perfect nickname for the Mets closer, Triple F.

Some sidebars to the game. Murphy being picked off was hysterical. He looked like a fish out of water trying to swim back to the bag. He and Duda at times present an image that can only be matched if Chris Carlin attempted to dance Princes Seigfriend’s solo (Act 1) of Swan Lake Ballet (my first wife was an amateur ballerina and taught me about the ballet, but I still fall asleep during a performance).

Ike should have had a red cape and some bullfight music on the groundball he booted in the eighth.

Torres broke in and then back on Reyes gift triple. Torres got to the ball but just missed it.

Mets come in to Miami withstand their initial blows and rally back to take a 5-3 lead.

Normally the story has been ending there with the Mets winning the game but not tonight. Ramirez, Parnell & Byrdak did their jobs for the most part though Parnell was the victim of a fielding error by Ike that led to Reyes eventually scoring. But the Mets had the lead with 3 outs to go as they headed into the bottom of the 9th and Francisco on the mound.

Francisco though simply stunk it up. Not only did he fail to hold the lead but he failed to keep it tied. In one word he “Failed”.

Positives for me I will go with Capt Kirk coming through with a big hit. I’d give it to Ike but his error is still bothering me. I expect better from him defensively.

Dickey on the hill 2morrow. Let’s still take 2 out of 3.

    LGM!!!

This loss bugged the crap out of me with the Ike error and another less than inspiring outing by our closer. Really wanted this first one of the series in the books with Dickey going tomorrow to try to get 2 out of 3 in the books done. Next 2 games are going to be tough, let’s get tomorrow to ensure the winning road trip and go from there. The first of 20 games in 20 days failed to follow the script I hoped for.

Side note: I find that home run sculpture completely lame.

      1. Stickguy

yeah, the way this one went down really sticks in my craw too.

if they can pull out a series win still it would be huge.

  3. Mr North Jersey

Look I understand that closers can’t dwell on blown saves but I just hope Francisco understands that comments like the one that follows may not be what fans want to hear or me at least.

“That’s baseball,” Francisco said. “That’s going to happen. Hopefully it’s the last time. I can’t put that in my mind because I know how baseball goes. I don’t feel bad. I feel bad because we lost. But, personally, I know I was fighting out there. I leave everything I have out there for my team. We lost. But I don’t feel bad.”

So you don’t feel bad about your performance but you feel bad that you lost? The Mets lost due to your performance. Someone tell me what I’m missing here. That just doesn’t make sense to me. I feel like that statement has a Glavine 2008 feel to it.

I really don’t want to hear anything from him when and if he loses the closer role.

His last blown save, he more or less said the same things. I didn’t care for it then anymore than last night.
I’ll never warm up to this guy. Here’s hoping we’ll be able to trade him.

Anytime you come from behind to score 5 runs, you should win the game.
FF’s record for his first 4 appearences were stellar. After that, downright horrific. He’s not close to an effective closer.
I can only hope that he puts up halfway decent numbers and maybe with all the injuries to closers and BP arms this year, we’ll be able to trade him at the deadline.
