All I got to see was the 9th. My wife goes like this… “who’s pitching? Acosta? So much for winning this game…”
And I must say both the uniforms and the stadium for the Marlins are putrid.

Let me 1st say that I have no problem giving the team or a player credit and recognition when they do well so I have no problem calling them out when they do bad and the blowup Francisco had with the ump as he walked off the mound was bush. Francisco embarrassed himself and the Mets uniform. I don’t care if the ump did squeeze him. I will be curios to hear what he says postgame but if it’s anything like what he said after Friday’s blown save he might as well just shut up and say no comment. All I want to hear from him is an apology for his behavior and letting the team down.
As far as the game goes Niese did a good job going 6 innings. I understand Collins wanting to go for the 2 run lead when he did but like Keith said I would of went with someone other than the struggling Davis there. Ramirez came in and gave up the tying runs but I am not going to go crazy on him especially since he has pitched ok since his Rockies fiasco.
Rauch came in and gave Collins a 1-2-3 8th and I wonder if Collins will give Rauch or Parnell a chance at closing for a bit especially after Francisco’s meltdown today.
Tough loss should of swept this series.
Positives for me was how the Mets once again fought back in this game.
Big picture the went 4-2 on the road and I would of signed up for that when the road trip began.
Let’s get home and beat the Bucks.

my lord, this was hideous. I went to the market in the middle of the ninth, and can’t believe they did this.
Fat frank needs to be demoted. Immediately. Hell, release his fat sorry ass. this should have been a sweep, stick a fork in them, and instead it puts the mets on the edge of the abyss again.
Had enough of acosta too. he needs to go. there are a few guys in the minors doing very well, time to give one of them a try.
and Terry made 2 key f-ups. I was chatting with SRT at the time, and we both could not figure out why Ike was sent up there and not baxter. Probably ended up the same if not better.
and how he did not get the message about never bringing acosta in with men on base or mid inning (hell, any kind of pressure situation).
so Manny, leave. Franky, take over his garbage time duty. Parnell and/or rauch, get to close.

Today being Mother’s Day (and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there) when I left to take my fiancée out to lunch the Mets led 2-0. I’m glad I didn’t have to endure the last few innings of this game. Triple F and Acosta being Triple F and Acosta you hold your breath and hope for the best but fear the worst.
“Big picture they went 4-2 on the road and I would of signed up for that when the road trip began.”
That rationalization doesn’t cut it if you want to contend. You win these types of games since there will be many games where you won’t have the opportunity to win. So you don’t want to squander ones you should win.

no, you can’t keep gifting away wins like this if you expect to stay in the hunt, Every so often it happens to every team, but back to back days? just can’t happen. this has to lead to some changes.
I was smart, and invoked my “never watch a met closer try to nail down a win” rule. so I went to the supermarket after the top of the 9th (mothers day treat!). Just sorry I checked the game when I got back!

That has to cut it cause the reality is that they did go 4-2. Obviously they blew the game and it sucks but I am not going to dwell on it more than that. Win your series whenever possible, play at least .500 on the road and play above .500 at home & vs your Division.
If they do that the contending will take care of itself.

Didn’t mean to ruffle your feathers there and if I did I’m sorry. I don’t believe in that old adage you presented. I’ve seen too many exceptions to make it a rule. I think back in the so called good old days ballparks varied dynamically from team to team and franchises used to develop teams to maximize performance within their home fields. Thus that old adage was born. I have a totally different philosophy which I won’t take the time to get into here. But suffice it to say if you consider your team a contender (and the Mets were not projected to be one) then you must take advantage of so called hot streaks to counterbalance cold streaks. You also don’t know if the convergence of a number of players overachieving will continue so you may not have the golden opportunities to excel in the future.
The reality is that they missed out on opportunities to win that were driven by players that unexpectedly performed over their norm and this team is probably not a contender. We got caught up in the excitement of the unexpected results this season when we should be satisfied with the results. When all is said and done the Mets players will be on the golf course for baseball’s post season.

No no no nothing like that Gategem.
I have too much respect for you to snap at you. I know it’s hard to read the tone of what one says at times but my reply was just stating again that the reality is they did go 4-2. Yes they could of went 6-0 but it wasn’t to be. Look we took 2 games from them in the bot of the 9th at Citi and they took 2 from us at Miami.
Big picture as much as you may disagree is we are 4-2 vs Miami and we went 4-2 on the road trip.
It’s done. No amount of dwelling on it is going to change the end result. Bigger concern is fixing the problem that caused the loss so it happens as minimal as possible.

Just a horrendous performance by Frankie. The discussion of our closer was going on about an hour and a half earlier where I was explaining how putrid Frankie can be and has been of late and my Father In Law saying give him a chance. Too bad Frankie proved my point by the end of the day. Just awful.
Long term I’d like to see the 8th & 9th be: Parnell to Mejia. Short term I’m guessing Rausch may be getting the call which I expect to not be much better than Frankie but I believe it’s time for a change for the sake of change.
Also, don’t know why Terry didn’t pull him with 1st & 3rd and no out. It was clear he didn’t have a shot. Not that Acosta faired better at the end but I’d rather he came in with a 2 run cusion to get 3 outs then a 1 run cusion.

if you are pulling him there, might as well just announce you are going to Ollie him, and who the new closer is.

Terry pulled him in a similar spot against the Giants in Pelfrey’s last start of the season a few weeks ago so it’s not like it hasn’t already been done here this year. Not looking to Ollie him as he’s got 2 years and it’s just starting. Just redefine his role for a better option now since he’s a complete mess at the moment. If he can’t get that role back then so be it.
Also agreed with your other post: I’d go for Catcher too but don’t ask me who?

Agree with many of you….that was a horrendous bottom of the 9th inning.
But….Ramirez didn’t help either. Take Niese out with a 2-0 lead and he blows it first.
Mets come back in the top of the ninth – and yea! – but FF blows it in the bottom of the 9th.
Acosta or not, this was all on FF IMO.
His first 4 outings were stellar. Since then, awful.
The ultimate job of the closer is to go 1-2-3. Not sure I’ve seen FF do this more than once.
To boot, he throws way too many fastballs and what’s up with that? You throw fb after fb, you’re going to get burned. Doesn’t mix up his pitches enough to be effective.
I can only hope he pitches somewhat decent and we can unload him at the trade deadline. I really don’t care for him – never did – but that in itself isn’t the reason. I could live with him as closer if he was getting the job done. But he’s not. Even when he does, he sometimes gives up runs in the 9th but not enough to blow the game.
He’s just got to go.
