Last Night on the Farm – 5/15/12

The Lucies were washed out, and the upper minors were pretty washed up.  And I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes, but the Mets are going to announce that they will host a pretty important event next year.  That’s right folks, the Futures Game is coming to New Shea.  Let’s get to it.

Gwinnet 6, Buffalo 1

The Herd did their best Mets impersonation last night, getting absolutely nothing done with the bats, falling behind early, then having the game get out of hand in the middle innings.  Jeremy Hefner gave up six runs in 5.2 innings, and that was all she wrote.  Elvin Ramirez, Josh Edgin and Jeff Stevens did combine for 3.1 shutout innings of relief.

Trenton 10, Binghamton 1

Another stinker!  Oddly enough, it followed the same pattern as above except it was an eight run eighth that put things away for good.  Mark Cohoon took the brunt of it, giving up seven runs in seven innings.  The good news is he walked no one, but that hardly matters when you give up ten hits.  Juan Lagares went 2 for 4 with an RBI and raised his slash line to .283/.345/.378, and Matt den Dekker extended his hitting streak to ten

Savannah 4, Charleston 3

Finally!  Brandon Brown’s two run double in the top of the ninth gave the Sand Gnats a 4-1 lead, and boy did they need it.    TJ Chism gave those two runs right back before getting the dangerous mason Williams to ground out, ending the game.  Jacob DeGrom got the victory with his second consecutive strong outing of the year.  The ninth round pick out of Stetson University missed all of last year with Tommy John (mmm…Tommy John’s) surgery, but he has been strong in his return.  Last night he gave up an unearned run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in six innings of work.  It’ll be interesting to see how he progresses.

Not much doing here, eh? I think Chris Young was supposed to pitch last night for “The Lucies” as you call them. Oh well.

Actually, they’ll probably have it at Citi Field.

I’m assuming that’s what Peter Duffy meant.
