Last Night on the Farm – 5/22/12

It was another rough night down on the farm.  Let’s take a look:

Indianapolis 6, Buffalo 3

After some weekend travels Chris Schwinden lasted only 4 innings, giving up 4 runs (2 earned).  Justin Hampson followed with 3 shutout innings and Josh Edgin pitched a scoreless and hitless inning, striking out 2.  The Bisons committed 3 errors and accumulated 8 hits, all singles.

New Britain 3, Binghamton 0

Collin McHugh was fine, but still took the loss after giving up 2 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings.  Brad Holt gave up the 3rd run in 2 innings of work.  Make it 17 for Matt Den Dekker, who extended his hitting streak going 2 for 5, although he did strikeout 3 times.  Jefry Marte was 1 for 3 with a walk and now has a 7-game hit streak of his own.  In his last 10 games he has 14 hits, including all 3 of his homeruns on the season.  Reese Havens had the night off.

Dayton 6, St. Lucie 5, 10 innings

Put your finger on the panic button because St. Lucie has lost 3 in a row, dropping their record to 34-11 and their division lead down to 11 games.  Cory Mazzoni started and gave up 3 runs in 5 innings while striking out 4.  Jack Leathersich struck out 3, but let up 2 runs in 2.2 innings.  John Church walked 2 and let up the winning run in the 10th.  Alonzo Harris was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and an RBI.  Richard Lucas homered and drove in 2 runs.

Savannah 5, Charleston 3

Charley Thurber tripled home 2 runs as part of a 3-run 8th inning to salvage the night for Mets affiliates.  Alex Panteliodis started but only lasted 4 innings.  After Randy Fontanez gave up all 3 runs, Chasen Bradford threw 2 scoreless frames to earn the win and T.J. Chism pitched a perfect 9th to get the save.  Thurber was the only Sand Gnat to have a multi-hit game.  T.J. Rivera doubled and scored 2 runs.  Gilbert Gomez was 1 for 2 with a double and a walk.

Looking forward to mchugh getting bumped up to AAA. he has been consistently good for quite a while now, from PSL thru AA.

I assume when Young comes up, they are also likely to move one of the weaker guys to the pen, and Mchugh comes up then.

They’ve bumped Dylan Owen from the bullpen into the rotation for a few starts, but I don’t understand why they didn’t just promote McHugh instead. They can always move Garrett Olson to the pen to make room.

Starting to look like McHugh will pass Schwinden on the depth chart for SP.

I think YOU have already passed Schwinden on the depth chart for SP.
