Last night on the farm Matt Harvey had some success, Jenrry Mejia didn’t, the Lucies got back to doing what they do, and so did the Gnats. Let’s take a look:
Buffalo 6, Scranton Wilkes/Barre 2
Matt Harvey won his 5th straight decision with another good outing. He went 5.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. However, he only struck out 2 while walking 1. Elvin Ramirez continued his AAA dominance with 1.2 scoreless innings with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Ramirez has allowed 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 12 in 10.2 innings in AAA. Omar Quintanilla led the Herd offensively with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Josh Satin, Jordany Valdespin, Lucas May, and Dustin Martin all had 2 hits each. Valdespin started the game at second base, where he’s expected to get most of his playing time for now.
New Britain 6, Binghamton 4
It wasn’t an ideal rehab start for Jenrry Mejia in his second appearance for the B-Mets. Mejia pitched 5 innings (75 pitches) and gave up 4 runs, including 3 in the 1st inning, on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. His next start will be for Buffalo. Gonzalez Germen piggy backed for 3 innings and gave up 2 runs and took the loss. Matt Den Dekker started a new hit streak, going 3 for 5 with a homer. Raul Reyes and Eric Campbell both had 2 hits each. Reese Havens was 1 for 4 with a double.
St. Lucie 5, Daytona 2
Yohan Almonte put together a nice outing, going 5.2 innings and giving up just 1 run on 8 hits. Hamilton Bennett and Ryan Fraser took it the rest of the way. Wilmer Flores and Robbie Shields both had 3 hits each. Rylan Sandoval had 2 hits. Cory Vaughn belted a homer for the second straight day; he has 10, which eclipses the 9 he had the second half of the season last year for St. Lucie.
Augusta 3, Savannah 2 10 innings
Tyler Pill had another good outing, lasting for 7.1 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 5. Jeffrey Walters gave up a run in 1.1 innings and took the loss. Gilbert Gomez was 3 for 4 with a double and a walk. He’s played just 5 games since getting promoted from extended spring training, but he is off to a great start. Travis Taijeron had 2 hits including a double. Albert Cordero doubled, but is hitting a disappointing .176. Aderlin Rodriguez hit his 6th homer of the year to give the Gnats both their runs.

Looks like Mr. Pill is in line for a promotion any start now.

SAL first half ends on June 17, FSL first half ends June 14. Right around then you should expect some promotions. I’d say Pill and Montero are most likely Savannah pitchers to be moved upward.

I assume that then creates some openings for guys to come out of EST?

Theoretically, in fact a few guys have already made their way from EST to Savannah. There is a chance that some guys from St. Lucie get demoted back to Savannah. There’s a lot of variables. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Over 100 pitches for Harvey in 5.1 innings. Only one walk and two Ks so not sure why the high pitch count. Lots of balls fouled off and/or full counts?

Off Topic: Looks like Maine is going to sign with the Yankees.

Looks like DJ was released as well. Carrasco, not the other NY SS.
