Adam Rubin is reporting that the New York Mets will put Justin Turner on the DL after he sprained his ankle earlier today during the game vs the Phillies. Coming up will be Omar Quintanilla which means the Mets have to make a roster move to add him to the 40-man and since it has been announced that pitcher Chris Schwinden will also be joining the team. It could mean that Acosta may be the player that is removed to make the a 40-man roster spot for Quintanilla.
In a tweet by Bisons beat writer Mike Harrington he says Backman has described Quintanilla as the team’s MVP this season.
Quintanilla coming into today was hitting .281/BA 6/HR 27/RBI.

nice to see them making a move that is about getting the best player that they can, not just conserving 40 man roster spots.
makes sense. Memorial day is that first milestone where you are deep enough into the season to make decisions on guys.
quintalla really does have good numbers this year, and from what I understand plays a good SS too.
I also think this means that Tejada is going to be taking longer than expected to come back, and they are looking for a more permanent starter (meaning more than 3 days or so) and that they don’t think cedeno can play.

Good point about bringing up the best candidate, 40 man roster be damned. I think that’s the only reason Carson was brought up, brief though it was. Saw some comments that we didn’t give him enough of a chance but following the minors a bit, Carson appeared to be struggling with control a bit down there and wasn’t all that consistent.

schwinden also serves 2 purposes. He is already on the 40 man, so they don’t have to lose another player to have him up until young or someone else comes back. Plus, he gives them the long man they were missing, and serves as insurance in case Hefner does not go very far tomorrow.

About time. Feel Freetown add multiple adjectives and adverbs to elaborate on that first sentence.
I’m both amazed and appalled he lasted this long.

Only logical choice. Can’t keep throwing him out there b/c he’s jut awful this year. Such is the life of middle relievers.

Glad they brought up Quint and not Valdespin. Might be jut me, but I’m not really impressed with Valdespin yet. I think he’s a liability at SS, we already have Murph at second and his bat, while it has potential, is not suited for ML pitching yet. Translated means I think he hacks to much yet.

I was not all that impressed by him either (though that HR off Paps was certainly nice). He does seem like a real hacker, and that is going to be exploited big time in the majors.

I am glad that Acosta is gone as well. Hopefully he will stay with the Mets and go to AAA until he gets back right. I am also VERY pleased to see Turner go on the DL even though his X-Rays were negative. This may be just because they have noone to play short but I hopethat it is more than that. Too many times has this team attempted to keep a player going that wasn’t physically able and it hurt them over the season. I know that players often want to work through the pain but most times it is a bad idea. Well the loss bites it but if that is what it took to convince people that Acosta is throwing junk so be it.
