Glad they finally DFA Schwinden. He’s had success at AAA, but he really should not be on the 40-man roster. I’m a little curious to see if anybody picks him off waivers. No one took Acosta shockingly.

Also, a lot of people are surprised Nickeas stayed over Johnson, but really Nickeas is just so far ahead defensively that it’s worth it to keep him over the chance that Johnson keeps hitting at this pace in limited action.

Saw someone mention that Johnson also had an option so that is why he was sent down. Don’t know if it is true or not or if Nickeas also does or doesn’t have options.

I am going with Nickeas having a better repertoire with the pitching staff than Johnson did being the reason Johnson was sent down cause I just don’t see this defense people talk about in Nickeas.

Both Nickeas and Johnson did have options so that wasn’t a factor. You definitely have a point when it comes to Nickeas having a good relationship with the pitching staff because that’s really important.

I didn’t think I would live long enough to see a Mets pitcher throw a no-hitter. The strange part was after Freese hit that dribbler down the third base line that went foul I had this mental picture of Freese swinging and missing at a characteristic Santana pitch at the shoe tops and I turned to my finance and said he’s got it.

The curse of Seaver is no more.

I was ahemming the Mr. NJ. I’m man enough to not need the Mr. ;)

        3. Mr North Jersey

I should add that I was in the dugout for the entire game along with SRT, Ceetar, Dantheman, Stick, SaltyGary and I believe I am forgetin some1 but I am drawing a blank.

There was not going to be a recap till later this evening but it was then decided to let spencer throw one up just something quick and one of our authors who was at the game 2nite will instead write about his experience 2nite.

Which is why yes I went to where I spend just as much time as I do here some could say even more and made my comment to share the moment with MMO.

I know you just joshing me Gategem but I figured I would make the record clear so future comments have the full gist of things.

          2nite was just epic.
Regardless of where you was as a Mets fan.

So let’s revisit the following question: Is Johan an Ace?
Well, he’s certainly our ace and he may not recognize it yet but he’s ascended to the rare level few NY athletes achieve, that of NY sports legend.

Now hopefully he’s OK in 5 days.

W ho was the guy that no one remembers his name that was on the Tigers that isnt on the Tigers anymore… Galaraga something or other? While the no hitter makes history with the Mts, an ace it does not make…

      1. Hazmet

But Galaraga didn’t throw a no hitter I thought since the ump screwed up the call. ;)

I’d like to think Johan has a little more of a track record to claim ace status at least for our club than Galaraga had for his.

Let’s see where the season goes and revist this in a few months. Compare him right now to CC across town who is tagged an ace and his numbers stack up. He’s just gotta stay healthy.

My favorite no-hitter story concerns Bobo Hollomon a pitcher for the St. Louis Browns (later they move to Baltimore and became the Baltimore Orioles). Hollomon at the age of 30 pitched only one year in the majors. In 1953 he pitched in 22 games, started 10 and only completed one. His record was 3W, 7L, 5.23ERA, 65.1IP, 69H, 59BB, 1.821WHIP. Yet in the first game he ever started he pitched a no-hitter against the Philadelphia Athletics.
