You probably already know what happened at this point, so I’ll let you go to other places for your highlights. Here is a summary in bullet point form.
- Obviously Johan was good tonight, although he struggled with his command causing his pitch count by the end of the (can I say it now? Can I still jinx it?) no-hitter, as he finished with over 130 pitches. Terry came seriously close to pulling Johan a few times, but the baseball Gods were merciful and persuaded Terry to leave him in.
- Mike Baxter. Round of applause, you are awesome. I pray you are okay because you are now in Endy Chavez territory.
- The Mets defense really made that interesting, the ball that Quintinilla and Kirk nearly killed each other on, the one that Quintinilla and Murphy almost killed each other on, and the ball that Torres was very hesitant toward in the 9th all made it very interesting. And you expected it any other way…
- 8021 without a perfect game, just kidding.
- Anyone who says this should have an asterisk because of the Beltran foul/fair ball is a world-class A-hole, and should be ignored immediately.
- There were some things other than Johan tonight, including the greatness of El Dude, David Wright, and El Murph.
- That fan that ran onto the field is my new hero, watching him get mauled by security in the background was absolutely hilarious.
NOHITTER GUYZ!!!!!!!!!!!111!! Go crazy folks! Go crazy!

JOHAN IS THE MAN!
Congrats to Johan Santana for pitching the first no hitter in Mets franchise history.
Worth. Every. Penny.
Kudos to Mike Baxter for keeping it a no-no.
Just doesn’t get any better than this.

I feel a father’s pride at this no hitter. I know I shouldn’t, but I do.
Now, don’t go trading the chips in the farm to shoot the wad to make the playoffs!

How about Josh Thole? Comes back and in his 1st game catches a no-hitter. Give the man a cigar.

I thought the same exact thing, just a special night. The other couple of things I thought of were:
1. The Kirk play in LF almost having another run in with the SS while he was clearly calling for the ball. Almost as if those 3 or 4 times that’s happened earlier in the season almost serving as a prerequisite to tonights moment so he would catch it even if he had to run Quintanilla into the ground.
2. Torres coming in on the ball in CF and to me almost overruning it but adjusting unlike the line drive in Miami to him that he misjudged and it got by him. Again, like another prerequisite to this moment.
And like Spencer observed Murph taking control of that little flair to 2B cutting off Quintanilla.
Just great stuff. Great drama.

absolutely Kirk would have knocked him right into the dugout.

Over the years the Mets have had some of the best pitchers in the history of the game and Santana is definitely among them. However, until now no one has accomplished what Santana did tonight. I recall Seaver’s game against the Cubs and Seaver was as dominating as a pitcher can be and he didn’t get the no-hitter. I remember the one in Chicago in a scoreless game Seaver gave up a hit in the bottom of the ninth that was a catchable ball but Kranepool was playing RF and his running speed was less than Duda’s. I always thought the first one would be by a non-descript pitcher that would never win another Mets game. But it was accomplished by one of the best pitchers in the history of the game that overcame great odds by returning to the mound after an extremely serious operation that few pitchers come back from and the ones that do never regain their form. The Mets amazing once again.
