Last Night on the Farm – Johan Santana Edition

If you are interested in what happened in the minors this morning, something is truly wrong with you.  And this is coming from me.  There are some excellent pieces on Mr. Santana’s big night on this blog, go read them – not this.  Also, the Lucies were rained out.

Toledo 5, Buffalo 2

Jeurys Familia pitched decently, six innings, three runs, six hits, one walk (good0, four strikeouts.  Also, Johan Santana threw the Mets first no-hitter.

Akron 10, Binghamton 2

Reese Havens hit a two run homer.  It was the only hit the B-Mets got.  Which is one more than the St. Louis Cardinals got.  Because Johan Santana threw a no hitter.

Greensboro 2, Savannah 0

Rafael Montero was brilliant.  Not Jonah Santana throwing a no hitter brilliant, but brilliant nonetheless.  In eight shutout innings he allowed only four hit and no walks to go with six strikeouts.  That’s it folks, go back to reading about Johan.

couldn’t find the source to prove it, but someone posted elsewhere that they saw on Yahoo that baxter had the shoulder contusion (that we knew) but was also being evaluated for a possible concussion and possible broken rib.

so hard to imagine he is not DL bound.

so, who comes up? Would be easy call if Bay was ready but he’s not. I think the only OF on the 40 man is Lagares.

so with 5 OF already (including Rotino), I assume Valdespin comes back up so he can wildly hack at bad pitches? I am not a fan of his at all, but he probably makes the most sense at this point.

Valdespin is already up with Cedeno back on the DL. It would be sad to see Baxter on the DL for an extended period of time, but it would certainly solve the roster issue that was impending when Bay got back. My guess is if Baxter goes to the DL they would have either Johnson or Satin be a space filler until Bay is ready; most likely Johnson since Satin is likely going to be DFA when Beato is activated.
