In other news, we won’t have Chris Schwinden to kick around anymore, the Blue Jays claimed him off waivers. Instead of spending the summer getting shipped back and forth between Buffalo and Queens, he’s going to spend it in Vegas, where Toronto has their AAA affiliate.
Despite pitching real well at AAA this year, this isn’t a huge loss. Going forward the Mets have Young, Batista, and Hefner as options for the 5th spot in the rotation. There’s a chance Harvey is deemed ready at some point this summer. Mejia isn’t likely as a starter, but possible, and I wouldn’t count out Collin McHugh and/or Darin Gorski as options down the line either, especially in September. So, they really don’t need Schwinden any longer.

wonder if they are going to be able to make a move on replacing baxter before the game, or if they want more time to evaluate?
Also sucks if it is true that Elvin is hurt and needs to hit the DL. and gonna really screw up the roster management.

I can’t imagine they can make a move before today’s game. If Baxter does hit the DL I wouldn’t be surprised if they added an extra pitcher to the roster until Bay is ready. Beato is eligible to be activated tomorrow. Now Young is expected to pitch for the Mets next, as early as Tuesday. Batista could also be activated at some point. So, a lot going on with the pitching staff over the next few days. Plus, the only real options are Johnson and Satin, and Satin is liable to get DFA for either Beato or Young.
Also, I think Adam Rubin tweeted it was Ramon Ramirez not Elvin that injured his hamstring during the celebration.

not sure why they are rushing young if he needs more prep time. Hefner is probably just as likely to have a decent outing next week.
to make room, might as well call up whoever is going to be cut. So bring up Satin until they need the spot?

A nice tidy 5-zip tilt by RA and the blue & orange hoard today. When they get to plugging Chris Young in the rotation that will make quite the formidable 1-3 at the top of the rotation.

you are expecting a whole lot more out of Young than I am. And would not be hoping for more than solid 4th/5th starter results.

Well the potential is there based on Young’s brief stint last year. If it clicks great, if not then in August Harvey should be due to get plugged in.

Just recall that Ike was outstanding in his brief stint last year. We have no idea what to expect of Young. Even if he starts off well what happens when the league adjusts to him?

want a scary stat?
In all of MLB, there are only 2 teams with more wins than the Mets (and only one in the NL).
The Dodgers with 32, and Rangers with 31.
The Mets are that close to leading all of MLB in wins.

I looked at the same thing this morning…with a great big smile. Astounding start.

Up until today’s victory the Dodgers had lost 5 in a row. The loss of Kemp can’t be covered by a replacement.
