Last night on the farm Buffalo got crushed, Ruben Tejada re-injured himself, the B-Mets blew a lead, the Lucies walked off with a win, and Justin Turner is mentioned in a farm report for the first time since last April. Also, I’ll try to introduce you to a couple Dominicans. Fair warning, some of this is as ugly as Jordany Valdespin playing shortstop, but let’s take a look:
Columbus 21, Buffalo 3
No, that’s not a type-o. This was a disaster. Let’s start with Ruben Tejada, who was supposed to play 7 innings but removed himself after 3 innings because of quad tightness. So unless you just dropped 60 bucks on an Omar Quintanilla jersey, this is bad news. As for the game, Dylan Owen got roughed up big time, giving up 13 runs on 11 hits and 5 walks in 3 plus innings. This was surprising from Owen, who has had a real good season for Buffalo, but in this one outing his ERA went from 2.95 to 5.32. After Chuck James allowed all 4 of Owen’s inherited runners to score in the 4th, he gave up 4 more runs of his own. In the 8th, veteran catcher Jean Luc Blaquiere took the mound and gave up 3 more. Can you just imagine Wally’s reaction to a 21-3 loss? Of course, there is a silver lining. Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning, striking out 2. Also, Val Pascucci hit his 12th homer of the season.
Harrisburg 9, Binghamton 6
Mark Cohoon struck out 5 in 6 innings while letting up 5 runs on 7 hits, but still left with a chance to win the game. Unfortunately, Brandon Moore gave up 2 runs in the 7th while recording 1 out and Brad Holt gave up 2 more in the 8th. Offensively, the B-Mets put together 10 hits. Matt Den Dekker was 3 for 5 with an RBI, although he did strike out twice. Jefry Marte was 2 for 4 with a double, homerun, and 4 RBI’s. Reese Havens was 1 for 4 with a double and RBI.
St. Lucie 3, Clearwater 2
In his season debut Jonathan Clark singled home ZeErika McQueen to deliver a walk-off win for the Lucies. Tyler Pill made his St. Lucie debut after earning a promotion and lasted 5.1 innings giving up 2 run on 8 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2. Pill did get a tweet of approval from Justin Turner, who was sitting in a suite in Digital Domain Park watching the Lucies live and the Mets on TV simultaneously. Hamilton Bennett, John Church, and Ryan Fraser combined for 3.2 scoreless innings and 6 strikeouts. Alonzo Harris was 2 for 4 with his first homer of the season. Jason Bay was 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout after missing the previous game with an illness. He should be back with the Mets tonight after going 2 for 9 in a 3-game rehab assignment.
Savannah’s game was cancelled because of wet grounds at Historic Grayson Stadium. Savannah and Ashville will play a double header on Thursday.
Also of note, both DSLMets teams got their first win of the season after both started out 0-2. Three different guys homered for DSLMets2, including Vicente Lupo (for the second straight day) and Elvis Sanchez. You don’t know those guys yet, but they’re two of the more intriguing teenagers the Mets have down in the Dominican.

Very interesting, salty.
I read a few years back about Nolan Ryan’s mindset on pitch counts. I see it’s mentioned in this article as well.
From what we’ve all seen limiting pitch counts has done very little to ward off injury – as evidenced by so many young prospects and MLs needing surgery.

good to see that Bay is in mid-season form. sadly, 2-9 (and his 0-3 with a BB and a K last night) is “ready” fo rhim.
shouldn’t they keep him down until he at least has 1 good game in A ball? The Mets have no need for him at all anyway, so why the rush? Certainly not before the Al park games and they need a DH!
