An Ode to R.A. Dickey

R.A. Dickey has been pitching so well, he’s been worthy of all kinds of unqualified praise.  So much so, that he inspired me to write a poem…an ode…an Ode to R.A. Dickey:

Robert Allen Dickey is your given name

But as R.A., you rose to fame

As a youth, you invited a fight

But being born again set you right

Never afraid of feats of harrow

You even climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro

Your swim across the Missouri

Didn’t work out so well

But you swam back to shore

Even though you have no UCL

Your pickoff move

Is true and steady

Because your elbow bends

Like a strand of spaghetti

A right-handed pitcher

For Team USA

You represented your land

In a courageous way

Reinventing yourself

You allayed your doubts

With your new knuckleball

You piled up outs

O R.A., you’re our favorite ace

Throwing every pitch with a maniacal face

You simply get better with every start

Pitching with brains and guts and heart

An All-Star pitcher you will surely be

In a World Series?

Maybe in Two-Oh-One-Three

It sounds as if you have a man-crush on RA. However, considering his last name don’t you think a limerick would be more appropriate? :-)

    Very clever.
What’s not to like about RA Dickey? Even non Met fans admire him.
