Rough night in the bigs, is there any relief in the minors? Let’s take a look. BTW – the Lucies had Gary Cater Night washed away.
Columbus 9, Buffalo 1
If you were looking for some sort 0of relief from Johan Santana’s abysmal outing, look elsewhere. Matt Harvey had his worst start in quite some time. In four innings, he gave up three runs on seven hits (1HR) and two walk to go along with three strikeouts. Jeff Stevens and Edgar Ramirez gave up the rest of the damage in the 14 hit barrage.
Binghamton 9, Trenton 7
Gonzalez German had a very solid outing, going seven strong allowing two runs on five hits (one of them left the yard), but walked none and struck out six. The other game ball goes to Matt den Dekker and his 5 for 5 night, including a RBI and three runs scored. Eric Campbell went 3 for 4 with three RBI and Jefry Marte added a 3 for 4 effort of his own with four RBI (including a three run homer).
Charleston 5, Savannah 1
Jacob deGrom did his best against a strong Riverdogs team, but two home runs did him in. Over five innings, deGrom gave up all five runs on eight hits but he didn’t walk anyone and he did strike out five. Aderlin Rodriguez was 2 for 4 and Brian Harrison was 1 for 4 with an RBI

Nice showing by den Decker.
Eh, not so good showing by Harvey, but it wasn’t horrible like Santana’s…

Saw that 5 for 5 for DenDekker last night. I know he’s a plus defender but the question mark was his bat. Nice to see him have a good night at the plate.

I wouldn’t say the bat is a question, he hits and collects a lot of extra bases. The question is whether he can hit lefties enough to not need to platoon in centerfield and if he can lower his strikeout rate without lowering his XBH rate at the same time, and to a certain extent can you live with the number of K’s he’s going to rack up.
