At this point in the season, there is no team more than 2 games back from a playoff shot. The league is wide open and any team can make a run with 11 weeks remaining in the schedule. Speaking of runs, I told you to watch out for team “Reconsider Baby” who have gotten 3 wins in a row. Dickey’s disciples is also on a 3 week run and Team Real desperately needing some wins has strung together 4 strong weeks in a row but has only gotten wins from the last two. Speaking of teams to watch out for, am I allowed to start talking up my team in the Snukes? El fuego bebé!!!!!
They’re what we thought they were… Well not really.
If they were who we thought they were then fantasy baseball would be very boring. Here are some of the current draft busts and where they were picked:
Evan Longoria (Rd1 #9), Jacoby Ellsbury (Rd 1 #10), Justin Upton (Rd2 #11) Cliff Lee (Rd2 # 16) Roy Halladay (Rd 2 #19), Tim Lincecum (Rd4 #31), Pablo Sandoval (Rd 4 #39), Dan Haren (Rd 5 #45), Eric Hosmer (Rd 6 #51), John Lester (Rd 6 #54), Yovani Gallardo (Rd 6 #60)
Here are the surprises, there overall rank either on offense or pitching and where they were drafted:
#4 Melky Cabrera (Rd 14 #137), David Wright #5 (Rd 3 #29), Jason Kipnis #10(Rd 18 #180), Josh Reddick #25 (Not Drafted), Alejandro De Aza #31 (Not Drafted), Rafael Furcal #32 (Not Drafted), Jose Altuve #33 (Not Drafted), Mark Trumbo #35 (Rd 20 #199), Matt Joyce #43 (Not Drafted)
R.A. Dickey #1 (Rd 16 #160), Chris Sale #3 (Rd 19 #187), Jake Peavy #8 (Not Drafted), James McDonald #16 (Not Drafted), Brandon Beachy #20 (Rd 14 #133), Wade Miley #30 (Not Drafted), Santiago Casilla #34 (Not Drafted), Jason Hammel #35 (Not Drafted).
So the moral to the story is they never are who we thought they were. Most of the time anyway.
*** Will be on the road to Terre Haute IN for business so no fantasy article next week***
