First, have to fell a little sorry for Bay. Almost can’t believe he keeps getting injured. But if you look at his play, really not hard to figure out. He goes all out, regardless. And that’s what happened tonight as well.

TC said he was dizzy, probably concussion. Have to believe he’ll be out a good long while.

Gee…too many pitches up in the zone. Defense behind him didn’t help.

I think the Reds are a little ridiculous with that retaliation thing. No way Gee was trying to hit Votto. He was openly cursing on the mound after he did that. But they come right back and plunk Wright anyway.

Oh well, maybe we’ll get the dominant Niese tomorrow and a little more offense.

    1. Stick

Yeah, I do feel bad for Bay. But looking at that play, he did kind of stumble around. He really should not have been flopping into the wall head first.

but with a repeat of a concussion, and how long it lingered last time, I really think he is going to be shut down for the year.

  2. Stick

oh, good point about the defense. It really is the achilles heal much of the time.

  3. Stick

as to defense, it really would help to have a set lineup of guys that were playing where they belong. Including in the OF>

I would like to see a set lineup now, even if it includes a strict platoon.

  4. Mr North Jersey

An inside the park HR? Sigh

Don’t wish anyone ill so I hope Bay recovers fine from his bout with the wall. Having said that it seems like Bay just always is having some injury after hitting a wall. The 1st thing I though after the injury was see you next season Jason Bay. Waiting to hear how bad it is. After watching the replay like 4 times he really is lucky to walk away from that seeing how his neck went into the wall.

As far as the game it felt like it was over almost as soon as it started. Which has not been a typical feeling this season with this club. Hat tip to Capt Kirk. The kid is hitting some serious shots. Once again Hairston as well with a HR. Joe D said it a few posts ago. Have to give credit for staying with Hairston and bringing him back.

All that is left is to try and come back and win 2morrow.

    LGM!

I saw Bay’s injury but I was also working on one of my computers at that time and didn’t have the TV sound up. I understand some of the fans booed Bay as he left the field. Just what the hell is wrong with people these days? They’re all over the internet and now at the ballparks.

      1. darknova306

And watching the replay, it’s hard to imagine him not coming really close to breaking his neck the way he hit the wall. That was really serious. So is having multiple concussions in your life. People just don’t get it.

      2. Stick

I was not even online, and only watched the replay without sound. But if they boo’d him then, that was just plain horrid.

      3. Hazmet

I’ll explain some of the booing as I was at the game. With the obstructed views nobody could see what the hell was going on through portions of the stadium down the LF line. Ourselves included. Initally there were a lot of boo’s because it was like what the hell happened. Then when they showed the replay and people could see what happened as Bay disappeared into the corner the mood changed instantly to oh my god, hope he’s OK, he almost broke his neck.

But, it’s easy today to just hear “Met’s fan boo’d as Bay hurt” Most of the boo’s turned to concern when they saw what happened. Of course there are alway’s the few that are going to boo no matter what. But the initial reaction turned quickly.

Elvin does not appear to be ready for the majors. People tend to gush over performances in the minors forgetting the jump to the majors is not trivial.

A control pitcher such as Hefner cannot be successful pitching sparsely. With him its all about location, location and location. Throwing strikes is not enough. His pitches have to be located in specific zones and the hitters have to be set up.

Not too worry. Either tomorrow or the next day, etc. the Mets will come back and win and then once again we will see all the blogs telling us how resilient this team is, how they never say die, how they overcome adversity, etc., etc., and so forth. I look forward to the day when the Mets are an elite team and we don’t have to see those stupid blog stories. In the meantime we will see them again.

BTW the hated Yankees have now won 7 straight versus the NL East. Four of those victories have occurred outside the friendly confines of their bandbox in the Bronx. That should silence all the morons at other blogs that wrote that the Yankees were only winning because of Yankee Stadium.

    1. Hazmet

Yes on all counts. Elvin is not anywhere near ready. When Votto was up he almost crushed a few and had him timed. At that point Thole went out to talk to him clearly to tell him Votto had him timed. They wasted a pitch high next and then got Votto on the tipped strike 3 but that moment was about to blow up large. He throws straight heat with the underline on straight, which ain’t good.

Is it true that Fox News was represented at the game and Bill O’Reilly threw out the first ball?

        1. Hazmet

It was like Fox employee out night and O’Reilly threw out the first pitch as a strike and was mixed boo’s and cheers.

  6. Ceetar

Hey now, you had a rep at the game tonight, you should’ve used his prospect image! (or mine)

    1. Mr North Jersey

I wasn’t aware you had a pic. I knew you was at game when I saw the panoramic photo tweet but didn’t think you had any of the prospects. Still you have to admit that is one pretty good photo.

  7. Mr North Jersey

Expect Turner back in morning with Bay going on DL.

    1. darknova306

So very little change in the suckitude of that roster spot? Sigh…

      1. Mr North Jersey

        Hey!

        1. darknova306

What?!? Turner is a mediocre bench player and Bay is a mediocre anything! It’s not my fault they both suck at their chosen profession.

          1. Mr North Jersey

But… but… what about that nice run by Turner last season where he came up and was driving in runs?

            Go Truck Turner!

            Remember?

That has to slide him ahead of Bay.

          2. Stick

the key difference is, Bay was starting in LF and Turner will be a bench bat and take some starts at 2B from Murphy.

  8. NJStuckinTX

On a human level, I feel for Jason Bay.

On a Fan (read: lost touch with reality) level, I’m glad he’s out of the lineup.

Had to write that, as I’m sure some of you thought it.

    Get well, Mr. Bay.

    1. srt

After the game they asked TC about the replacement for Bay. After saying he hadn’t talked to Sandy yet, he went ont to say they’ve got plenty of depth right now in the OF since Spin can play there too. Said Turner only had two Ames in triple A but they’ll see. Have to believe it’ll be Turner coming back sooner than planned.

And agree with Stick above about the defense and a more stable line up. Most can’t be helped because of injuries. I’d really prefer Kirk play LF rather than CF too.
Hopefully Ike continues hitting so we don’t need to be moving Duda around either. And dang….Murphy really needs to start coming out of his funk.

      1. NJstuckinTX

Agreed on Murph. They need his bat. This was/is his year to prove he belongs here, at least in the everyday lineup and not a sub off the bench.

And I’d like to see Kirk every day in RF, slide Duda to LF. Bay lost so much time last year and now he has another concussion… This could take a long time to fix. Might as well go forward with the alignment of the future, right?

        1. oleosmirf

unfortunately, I don’t believe the Mets agree that Duda is better at LF than RF…

  9. oleosmirf

While I hate to see anyone have a serious and possible career-ending injury, the Mets are now a better team than they were yesterday.

I wish Jason well in his recovery and hope he does not suffer any long lasting effects, but my hope is that we’ve seen the last of him in a Mets uniform.

Going into the offseason knowing that Bay is not in the plans, will be that much better for the team…
