Last night was a rough night on the farm, save for a nice outing from Matt Harvey and another win by the Cyclones over the hated Yankees. Let’s take a look.
Buffalo 6, Norfolk 1
Matt Harvey had another good outing, allowing 1 run on 6 hits in 6 innings while walking 2 and striking out 7. He ran into some trouble in the first couple innings but was able to work his way out of it. Jenrry Mejia pitched 2 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2. Rob Johnson was 2 for 4 with a double. Matt Den Dekker was 1 for 4 with a triple. Ronny Cedeno was 1 for 5 with an RBI while playing shortstop.
Akron 6, Binghamton 4 (10 innings)
The B-Mets lost a game that started on June 3rd in Binghamton and ended last night in Akron. Brad Holt let up 2 runs in the 10th on 4 walks and a hit to take the loss.
Akron 4, Binghamton 2 (7 innings)
Mark Cohoon pitched all 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 5. Josh Rodriguez had 2 of the B-Mets 5 hits, including a homerun. Reese Havens, Dustin Martin, and Juan Centeno had the other 3 hits.
Bradenton 7, St. Lucie 0
The Lucies struggled on the mound and at the plate in an ugly loss. Erik Goeddel let up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 3 walks through 5.1 innings, but he did strike out 7. Jack Leathersich and John Church also gave up 2 runs each. Alonzo Harris and Blake Forsythe both singled to give St. Lucie their only hits of the game. Ruben Tejada was 0 for 4 with a strikeout; he’s 1 for 9 on rehab thus far.
Brooklyn 4, Staten Island 1
Luis Mateo (a name you may want to learn) pitched 5.2 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. John Mincone pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief and Jeremy Gould struck out the side in the 9th to earn the save. Cole Frenzel led the way offensively going 3 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Alexander Sanchez was 2 for 5. Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 3 with 2 walks.
Princeton 8, Kingsport 4
Akeel Morris did not have a season debut, lasting 3 plus innings and allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits. On the plus side he only walked 1, but he also only struck out 2. Joe Tuschak homered but also committed 2 errors in left field. Jeffrey Diehl was 1 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Gavin Cecchini was 0 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, and a throwing error.
SAL North 3, SAL South 2
The Sand Gnats all-star trio was on the losing side of things. T.J. Chism pitched the 8th and gave up a run that would ultimately be the difference in the game. T.J. Rivera was 1 for 2. Travis Taijeron was 0 for 2 with a strikeout. Taijeron failed to hit a homerun in the finals of the SAL homerun derby.

Good to see the outing from Harvey limiting the walks.
Wonder how long before we see Mejia called up to the BP here?

He’s supposed to be on a 2 week program in the bullpen. His first relief outing was this past Friday, so sometime around the first of July he could conceivably be brought up.

hopefully not soon. It would be nice to A) see him dominating and B) pitching like a normal RP (multiple days, erratic use) instead of on a carefully orchastrated rehab schedule.
until he is just another guy in the Pen that is having strong results, leave him down there. No need to bring up another Elvin, we already got one of those!

I think they’re incorporating back to back days and entering mid-inning as part of the program. I don’t think they’re babying him, I think they’re trying to prep him for the major league bullpen.
