Last night on the farm Buffalo got crushed, St. Lucie did some crushing, Savannah lost a pitcher’s duel, and the K-Mets dropped a pair, continuing their dreadful start. Let’s check out all that and more:
Durham 11, Buffalo 5
Collin McHugh had a rough night in his second AAA start, giving up 6 runs over 5 innings, with all the runs coming off of 3 homeruns. However, he did strike out 6 and walked just 1. Jenrry Mejia had another poor relief outing allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits and getting just 1 out. Elvin Ramirez finished off the inning for Mejia but gave up a run of his own. Fred Lewis, Josh Satin, Raul Reyes, and Brad Emaus each had 2 hits. Matt Den Dekker doubled and drove in a run but struck out twice. Ruben Tejada was 1 for 4 with an RBI; after singling in the top of the 7th he was replaced defensively in the bottom of the 7th.
Erie 5, Binghamton 3
Greg Peavey lasted 6.1 innings and struck out 5 but he also gave up 5 runs on 10 hits. Brad Holt struck out 2 and walked 3 in 1.2 scoreless and hitless innings. The B-Mets had 9 hits; all were singles. Juan Lagares, Reese Havens, Eric Campbell, and Pedro Zapata all had 2 hits each. Havens also walked twice, getting on base in all 4 plate appearances. Havens line is now at .196/.330/.301. For a guy that hasn’t hit much he has a pretty good OBP and he’s also driven in 16 runs in 47 games, which again is nice for a guy that isn’t really hitting.
St. Lucie 10, Fort Myers 3
Rafael Montero made his St. Lucie debut and put together a nice outing. Montero threw 6.1 innings and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks with 7 strikeouts. Adam Kolarek worked around 3 hits to pitch 1.2 scoreless innings. Travis Taijeron was 2 for 4 with a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Alonzo Harris was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and 2 walks. Cory Vaughn was 1 for 2 with 3 walks and 3 runs scored.
Augusta 1, Savannah 0
Michael Fulmer took the hard-luck loss in this pitchers duel in which both teams only managed 3 hits each. Fulmer struck out 8 and walked 3 in 6 innings while allowing the game’s only run on 2 hits. Cam Maron was 2 for 4, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. ZeErika McQueen doubled for the other Gnats hit.
Brooklyn 7, Aberdeen 1
Rainy Lara had a nice Brooklyn debut pitching 5 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Juan Urbina piggy-backed out of the bullpen for 3 innings, giving up a run on 3 hits, while striking out 4. Phillip Evans was 1 for 3 with 2 walks and a solo homer. Kevin Plawecki also homered as part of a 2 for 5 game. Alexander Sanchez had 2 hits. Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 5 with 2 RBI’s.
Greeneville 9, Kingsport 5
This game was continued on Saturday after being suspended on Friday tied at 5. Ramon Estevez entered the game for the K-Mets and gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of work. Gavin Cecchini ended up going 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Jeyckol De Leon and Joe Tuschak also had doubles. Tomas Nido had 2 hits, including a homer.
Greeneville 9, Kingsport 5
Different game, same score. Christian Montgomery made his pro debut and lasted 4.2 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 2 hits and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts. Alberto Baldonado let up 3 runs without allowing a hit by walking 5; he took the loss. Eric Peguero continued his hot start by going 3 for 5 with an RBI. Anthony Chavez doubled home 2 runs. Other than that there wasn’t much offense from the K-Mets, unless you count Michael Bernal walking thrice and scoring two runs.
