As the month where the Mets faced a difficult part of their schedule draws to a close. A look at the Mets relief pitching reveals that up to now they have had the best month statistically speaking as far as ERA and BAA and that it also happens to coincide with being a month in which they have the least amount of innings pitched.
This month only the Giants pen has pitched less innings (3 innings less) than the Mets. The Mets pen so far has the 6th best BAA and the 8th best ERA in the NL which is a drastic improvement from where they were last month 16th in both categories.

and like we were discussing last night, getting rid of the chief offenders (Acosta, Carasco and Elvin) helped immensely for going forward.
just taking the stats for those 3 out of the total, the rest of the pen has an ERA below 4 (3.95 or so). So that is a good sign for going forward (since frankly, what they already did doesn’t really count any more!)
Franky has even been very solid since the later part of May.

Removed the worst offenders from the BP and having some of the starters going deeper in the game should hopefully continue to pay dividends for the BP.
