Last night on the farm Mets affiliates finally started to win some games, with the Lucies, Gnats, Cyclones, and even the K-Mets all winning games. Let’s take a look:
Durham 3, Buffalo 2
Garrett Olson gave up 3 runs in 5 innings and took the loss. Josh Edgin and Manny Acosta both pitched 2 scoreless innings each. Jordany Valdespin, Val Pascucci, and Josh Rodriguez all had singles, and that was it for the Bison’s offense, except for 4 stolen bases by Valdespin.
Altoona 6, Binghamton 2
Gonzalez Germen allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6, as he took the loss pitching opposite Gerritt Cole, the first overall pick in last year’s draft. Juan Lagares, Eric Campbell, and Wilmer Flores all had 2 hits each. Flores hit a double off Cole, already his 4th since his AA promotion. Reese Havens and Jefry Marte were both hitless; Havens struck out 3 times.
St. Lucie 5, Fort Myers 2
Tyler Pill had another nice outing, going 6 innings and giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on just 4 hits and a walk while striking out 7. Hamilton Bennett and Adam Kolarek finished things up, combining for 3 shutout innings. Alonzo Harris led the way offensively, doing 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Of all the outfielders in St. Lucie, Harris may actually be the one most deserving of a AA promotion. Cory Vaughn was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Blake Forsythe and Richard Lucas also had 2 hits each.
Savannah 6, Augusta 3 (Game 1, 7 innings)
Marcos Camarena had a mediocre outing, allowing 3 runs in 4.1 innings, but Carlos Vazquez and T.J. Chism were good out of the bullpen and helped the Gnats take game 1. Gilbert Gomez, Dustin Lawley, and Matt Reynolds had 2 hits each. The 2 hits by Reynolds were his first as a professional, including a 2-run homer.
Augusta 5, Savannah 4 (Game 2, 8 innings)
Domingo Tapia pitched 5.2 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and no walks while striking out 4. The Gnats were on their way to pulling off the sweep until the bullpen let up 4 runs in the 7th and another run in the 8th. Aderlin Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with a 3-run homer, his 13th of the year. Cam Maron was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Yucarybert De La Cruz was 2 for 3. Maron and Gilbert Gomez each had a double.
Brooklyn 7, Hudson Valley 6 (11 innings)
As seen on SNY, Kevin Plawecki hit a game-tying homer in the 9th to force extra innings. Plawecki was then hit by the pitch in the 11th, eventually getting pinch-run for by Jonathan Clark, who scored the game-winning run on a sac fly by Jayce Boyd. Boyd had a huge pro debut, doing 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 2 RBI’s. Cole Frenzel and Phillip Evans were both 2 for 6. Eudy Pina was 1 for 4 with a homer and 2 RBI’s. Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 5 with an RBI but 3 strikeouts, as he clearly became frustrated late in the game. Luis Cessa started but only pitched 4 innings, letting up 2 runs and striking out 4. Beck Wheeler looked good in 1 inning, striking out 3, but then let up 3 runs the next inning. Juan Urbina walked 2 and gave up a run in his inning of work. John Mincone ended up with the win after pitching 3 scoreless innings and striking out 4.
Kingsport 5, Greeneville 4
Steven Matz started but lasted only 2.2 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Corey Oswalt saved the day with 4 hitless innings of relief, striking out 2, and got the win. Jeff Diehl led the way offensively with a triple and 3 RBI’s.

nice to see Flores just keeps chugging along. Really starting to look like he turned a corner (took that next big jump forward?) this year. At this pace, he may need a taste of AAA too.
and quite possibly, not too far from Queens (to play where, that is the question, 2B!)

Seconded. He’s still got a lot to prove, but so far things are looking good. I really want to see the Mets have a legit second baseman one of these years so very badly…. offense intended to Murphy!

The offense has been good, but the defense is going to take some time no matter what position he ends up at. He just started 3B, he has very little experience at 2B, and he has even less at 1B. I don’t think outfield is a realistic possibility.

4 stolen bases by Valdespin? Nice.
Dang, I missed that SNY minor league game last night. Didn’t realize it was on.

The Bisons play today at 2 on SNY. RDM favorite Collin McHugh is scheduled to get the start.

sorry, I thought it was live, but it’s just a replay of last night’s game. I have no idea why SNY would replay a game that they didn’t even air live.

No problem, have it on now since I missed it last night.

And the best news of the day is that on Long Island the heat wave has broken if only for a couple of days.

Valdy & Familia… Your New York trade chips… Well, if Familia can have a decent putting one of these times…
Also, there is a confirmed TRS sighting. On MMO. Just saying.
