This game was ugly from the first inning. Niese let up 4 runs in the 1st and then settled down only to give up a two out, three run bomb in the 7th to Starlin Castro. In between and there after the Mets would strand a ton of runners in this shutout of lowly proportions.
The only highlight for me and granted I would have taken the bomb was I activated Dempster just in time for his start today in the TRDM fantasy league. Take that Salty… LOL.
Hopefully the Mets can lick their wounds a little during the break as Kingman likes to point out they have another hell stretch coming. Funny though with this team I trust them more against those type teams than the Cubs and Astros.

“…this shutout of lowly proportions”
HAHA! Sad, but true and damn funny.
.500 in Hell Stretch II would be fine with me.
Have not really anticipated a 2nd half as much as this one in a while; will be really interesting to see if they can keep winning.
As for this weekend, the Cubs have been playing .500 ball for a month, Dempster is on a hot streak, and what can you do. It is a long season.

well, that was the season. Been fun!
And duda is not going to be out there much longer. If he isn’t traded before the deadline, at this pace he is either going to be on the bench or in Buffalo soon.
if you are going to be an adventure in the field, you better actually be hitting.
so, let’s see Terry get off his ass and do something constructive to keep this team in it.

Wow, you sound like me now. :p
Have to at least give them credit for pulling one out every time you say they need to win the next game for things to not fall apart. I think you’ve said that at least 2 or 3 times, and before today they won all of them.

Stick is fine when the Mets win. In fact he is exuberant. But when they lose you have to hide the women and children.

Just the children is fine. I’ll take the women…

Bah….
I can’t give any credence to our record against some of these teams you all have mentioned as any indication on what they’ll do in the second half.
Still believe they have a shot to contend but even if they cannot hang with the ‘big boys’, I’m still gonna enjoy these games. I’ll be looking for the progression of some of the younger guys, what they’ll do with the BP, the OF and the SP. I’ll be especially interested to see if we have an injury to a starter, if they bring up Harvey.
I’m just gonna enjoy the ride, even if we fall short. I didn’t initially think they would anyway but it sure will be fun if they do.

When you’re dealing with a young team that achieves a modicum of success you have to worry about them reading and believing their press clippings. They are liable to ease up on their intensity level when they play a team they believe is not as good as them. The Mets talent is marginal at best and if their intensity and focus wanes even just a bit they set themselves up for failure.
I’m waiting for the day when the Mets talent level is among the elite and they can ease up on the throttle and still win. In the meantime I will enjoy the second half with no expectations other than fun baseball.

it’s a lot simpler than that.
they ran into a SP that was having a good day and couldn’t handle him.
