Your friend – as well as mine, Taryn “The Coop” Cooper from Kiners Korner and Gal For All Seasons has officially thrown her hat into the ring for the 2012 New York City Marathon, raising funds for the Tug McGraw Foundation charity!
The Tug McGraw Foundation’s goal is to provide resources and support, foster understanding, promote awareness, stimulate research and collaboration to improve the quality of life for people with brain-related trauma and tumors.
Tug McGraw once gave Mets fans a reason to believe, even when the odds were stacked against his team. He always had the idea that if you put your mind to something, you could beat the odds. We lost Tug to brain cancer several years ago, but we never forgot #45 and his “Ya Gotta Believe” enthusiasm.
Earlier this year, the Mets lost another icon who never stopped believing in his team or in himself, Gary “Kid” Carter. Kid kicked off one of the most famous rallies in sports in 1986, when he refused to make the last out of the 1986 World Series. We lost Kid to brain cancer too.
Coop is running this race for all brain cancer survivors and sufferers, but plans to do something acknowledging not only Tug but Kid too as she crosses the finish line.
Coop is officially soliciting donations to her fundraiser – there is no such thing as a *small* donation! She is currently at 75% of her goal — please visit her site here.
Please follow Lori Martini on Twitter (@LoriMartini) for her eBay auctions, where a percentage of the proceeds goes to the charity as well!
