You are asking me this question? Cereally? (my daughter likes to say that).
well, I vote yes. Not just to stay in the playoff race, but for relevance. And I am worried about what what the FO is going to do.
as to the FO, I have no problem believing that they never expected to be in the hunt this year, and really did not want to be. And that they have no intention of actually doing anything constructive to beef up the team, and will latch onto the slide as an excuse.
the big question though, any chance they sell? and if they do, will the internet explode?
If they do sell, the internet will be completely insane. I don’t think they will, though. They may trade a couple useful pieces to some legit contenders, like maybe Byrdak or Rauch, but I don’t see them selling off any huge pieces.
Must win? I don’t think I’d go that far, but if they get swept it’s certainly not going to help the chances that they’ll get reinforcements before the deadline. They also could really use a boost in home attendance, and that doesn’t happen by going on losing streaks.
Not sure we’re going anywhere this year but if they have any hopes of getting to post season, they’d better start winning these games against division teams.
Every game against a division rival that’s ahead of you in the standings after the all star break is a must game imo. Especially after losing the first 2.
What I’m interested to see is I believe this is Johan’s first start back at Turner Field after he said he was “spooked” earlier this year in his first start there since this is where he suffered his injury that put him on the shelf in 2010. So in a Met’s House of Horror’s we have a spooked pitcher taking the hill today in a must win situation. Awesome, only in Metville.

Must win? No way.
But there are two ways to view it:
1–After other recent sweeps, they go out and sweep someone else or win 4 of 5.
2–The Sixth Annual Great NY Mets Summertime Swoon has begun.
Is it door number 1 or door number 2?
Wish I knew, but we play WASH, LAD, WASH, and then 4 each @ AZ and SF for the next 17.
And without Gee, and without FF.
If I was on Let’s Make a Deal and Monty had a gun to my head, I am afraid I pick door number 2.
Great season thus far all things considered, but they have not had the horses all year, and losing Gee is probably the last straw.
The bullpen and the horrible fielding from Murph and Duda are catching up to them.

Summertime Swoon. I might have to use that as a beer name
Don’t forget the lack of power and the ridiculous number of runners that get left on base (just like last year).
