I am completely torn on what the Mets should do going forward and I feel like I’m my mind every day.
I think it’s obvious that this team is not playoff bound, but on the other hand, isn’t winning 82-85 games a really good stepping stone for the future…
If you trade Scott Hairston maybe you get a decent RH OF prospect or maybe Chris Young or Jon Rauch gets you a Josh Edgin type reliever.
But on the other hand, finishing with 84 wins might make the Wilpons spend more or make Sandy be proactive and look towards the trade market.

I’m torn myself, but I am leaning towards selling. They have some parts that could fetch something worth wild, for sure. If they can’t get through the Nats and the following series, they’ll be selling for sure.

Winning 82-85 games is a stepping stone only if you have almost all of your young progressing players in place on the big league team. Other than that scenario very little carries over from season to season.

Given how well the Nats have played the Mets, this thing could get ugly very quickly this week…

That is my fear as well.

then again, the Mets are famous for losing “gimmee” games, and winning series that look like they should have no chance in.
So, we shall see.

6 of the next 9 against the Nats with 3 against a healthier Dodger team, yes, this could be very ugly very fast.

All I can think is, this is exactly like last season. Came into the ASB faltering a little, looking to come out in the second half with a winning streak. That road trip was awful and the FO started telling off some pieces with an eye towards the future.
If we don’t at least take two of three from the Nats, might be seeing the same thing in about a week.
