Last night on the farm both the Bisons and Gnats put up huge offensive numbers, The B-Mets blew a lead, the Lucies dropped 2 despite good pitching from Rafael Montero and good hitting from Mike Baxter, and the K-Mets surprisingly won a game. Let’s check it out:
Buffalo 17, Toledo 1
The Herd exploded offensively in this one with 17 runs on 18 hits, including 4 homeruns. Matt Tuiasosopo had 4 hits and 3 RBI’s. Zach Lutz and Matt Den Dekker both had 3 hits. Den Dekker had 4 RBI’s, including a 3-run homer (already his 7th since his AAA promotion); he also scored 3 runs. Fred Lewis, Oswaldo Navarro, and Adam Loewen also homered. All of this was done in support of Jeremy Hefner, who gave up 1 run in 7 innings of work. Don’t get too excited though, Toledo is the second worst team in the International League.
Trenton 5, Binghamton 4
Armando Rodriguez gave up a run in the 8th and Robert Carson gave up a run in the 9th as the B-Mets let the game get away. Greg Peavey started and was actually decent, giving up just 3 runs in 6.1 innings. Reese Havens was 2 for 3 with a double, RBI, and walk. Wilfredo Tovar was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Juan Centeno and Allan Dykstra also doubled.
Brevard County 6, St. Lucie 5 (Game 1, 7 innings)
The Lucies were in line to win, but Jack Leathersich and Jeff Walters combined to give up 4 runs in the 7th and the Lucies bats were only able to get 2 back. Yohan Almonte started and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits in 5 innings, striking out 4. Mike Baxter was 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI’s in his second rehab appearance. Daniel Muno had 2 RBI’s in his 3rd game back from a 50-game suspension for you know what.
Brevard County 1, St. Lucie 0 (Game 2, 7 innings)
Rafael Montero had his best start since his promotion to St. Lucie, going 6 innings and giving up 1 run on 6 hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts. Taylor Whitenton struck out the side in the 7th. Unfortunately, Montero took the loss after the Lucies managed just 3 hits, including doubles by Mike Baxter and Aderlin Rodriguez.
Savannah 10, Lakewood 2
The Gnats got up for this 11 a.m. start time and routed the Blue Claws. Jacob DeGrom struck out 8 in 7.2 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk. Greg Pron was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, the 6’6’’ slugger is ripping it up in July hitting .340/.360/.532. Yucarybert De La Cruz was 3 for 5 with a double and 4 RBI’s. Gilbert Gomez and Cole Frenzel both homered. Matthew Reynolds, Dustin Lawley, and Brian Harrison all had doubles, as the Gnats offense really exploded, albeit uncharacteristically.
Hudson Valley 4, Brooklyn 1
Julian Hilario got knocked around a little, giving up 4 runs in 3.1 innings. Matt Koch and Logan Taylor both had 2 shutout innings of relief, but the Cyclones couldn’t come back from the early deficit. Brandon Nimmo and Eudy Pina both had doubles. In his last 5 games Nimmo is 10 for 19, with 4 extra-base hits.
Kingsport 4, Bristol 3
Robert Gsellman started and lasted 4.1 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) while striking out 4. Juan Urbina walked 2, but managed a scoreless inning, as did Martires Arias. Peter Birdwell pitched 2 innings, ending up with the blown save and the win. Jorge Rivero and Jeyckol De Leon had 2 hits each. How’s this for a weird stat: the K-Mets scored 4 runs but were credited with just 1 RBI; only in the Appalachian League.

send Havens to Buffalo so Flores can get more time at 2B.
Hell, send Flores to Buffalo instead.

LOL.
I’m just wondering how long Havens actually stays on the field.

well, since he came back early this year (May?) it seems like he has been fine.
hopefully the underlying issue (the ribs) being taken care of took care of things, and he has finally rehabbed all the way back.

will just jot this here. really need to figure out how to right a post again one of these days.
Is it time to go with spin as the starting CF, at least vs. RHP? If not all of it?
how about a Kirk/Hairston LF platoon, with Torres/Spin in CF if you don’t want him FT?
of course, this is predicated on Bay being left on the bench, or given a bus ticket back home 9don’t want him flying!)
Though moot point until Duda comes back.
Man, I want Bay out of the lineup.

Completely off topic, but looks like Miami is going to blow it up again. I’m talking like Nuclear Mushroom cloud. Bring back Reyes?
Bring back Bell? 2x

Maybe even Harvey, Mejia, Familia, Murphy, Flores, the ball boy, the bullpen catcher, Tapia and a signed picture of Madoff for Giancarlo?

Nothing is off topic if anything we can use a lot more off topic topics.
Can you imagine Miami actually trading Reyes after 1 season? That would be crazy.
I can’t see them actually doing that but if they do I don’t know how they sell it to the fan base.

If they are truly going to blow things up, They have to be selling. You can’t continually tear down / build up / wash / rinse / repeat and expect to have fan loyalty.
And i’m sure the Met fan base would take him back, but what an odd reunion if I ever imagined one.

though the one thing they don’t seem to need is a SS. Figures.
now Stanton, him they can find room for!

One article had him as part of a deal to the BoSox for Crawford. Either him or Hanley plus Bell. Random prospects involved too.
