This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Scenes From Last Night’s Terry Collins Pre Game Press Conference” Edition 07-25-12

Last night I, along with a contingent of other Mets bloggers, was invited to sit in on Mets manager Terry Collins pre game press conference.

Terry discusses everything from Lucas Duda’s demotion to AAA Buffalo to the status of Ruben Tejada’s injured leg.

To watch clips of the press conference , please click here, and here.

And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

Mets closer from ’06-’09, Billy Wagner is 41 (1971) . You can bring up all the negative aspects of Wagner’s personality and the way he pitched in crucial games, but you have to admit he was the best closer the Mets had since Jesse Orosco .

Middle reliever for the ’06 and ’07 team,Guillermo Mota is 39 (1973) . Mota was suspended from baseball not once – but twice for testing positive for P.E.D s !!!

The New York Mets traded one time number one draft pick, outfielder, Terrence Long and minor league pitching prospect, Leo Vasquez to the Oakland Athletics for starting pitcher, Kenny Rogers on July 25, 1999. All I can say is don’t get me started on “The Gambler” during the ’99 postseason !!!

Mo Vaughn loves to go skinny dipping when the temperature reaches triple digits !!!

I’d take Randall K. Myers over Billy the jerk, and Rogers was a nightmare in the postseason, but without his 5-1 record–plus a big lead that the bullpen blew that the Mets rallied to win anyway–1999 would be lumped in with ’98, ’97, and ’08 as fun years that became disasters.

I meant ’07 in the nightmare year lineup. ’97 was a gift.
