Mets Don’t Lose A Series… First Since First Week Of July

The Mets held off the D-Backs to split the series in Arizona with a win !

Dickey was much closer to the Dickey of old today.  R.A. was able to help out a well used bullpen by logging 7 four hit innings allowing only 1 run and striking out 8.  Rauch rebounded from a rough outing Thursday night to record his 11th scoreless appearance in his last 12.  Parnell worked the 9th in a non-save situation walking one and striking out 2.

Offensively, the Mets  got on the board early with back to back doubles from Wright and Hairston plating Murphy with the first and Wright himself with the second.  The Mets managed to actually tack on runs, shockingly.  In the 5th, Wright walked and stole 2nd to setup up a RBI single from Hairston.  In the 6th, Murphy doubled plating Torres from 3. Finally in the 8th Murphy doubled again scoring Torres (2-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored, 6-12 in the series).

Whew…. While I have no grandeur thoughts of the Mets climbing back into playoff contention, at least they responded with a split series on the road against a D-Backs team who plays much better at home.

Speaking of teams that play well at home, the Mets will be heading to San Fran to take on the Giants starting tomorrow night.  The Giants are among the league leaders in home winning percentage however they are coming off their 4th straight loss after getting shutout today by the Dodgers.   The pitching match-up features, uh well the hell with that, never mind.  Game time is really late.

    I’ll take the split.
Great outing by RA today. That one run was unearned so even better.

Just listening to post game right now.
Terry saying Wright is tired. Will get a day off in the next couple of days.

Also: Baxter on his way up and Kirk sent down.

    To complete the thought:

    Hefner vs. Bumgarner
    Harvey vs. Lincecum
    Niese vs. Cain
    Young vs. Zito

Right now a spit on the road is great considering how poorly our record has been since the start of the 2nd half.

It’s great to see Dickey pitch like he did earlier this season. Also say what you will about Torres but despite a 6 game stretch that saw him go 0 for 14 right now for the month of July he is hitting .293/BA with a .388/OBP and 10 runs scored.

Right now it’s all about getting back to .500 for me. They are 4 below with 4 games vs the Giants up next. Need to try and do no worse than a split.

    LGM!
