Last Night on the Farm – 7/29/12

Last night on the farm the Bisons and B-Mets pitched well and won while Brandon Nimmo and the Cyclones hit well and also won.  Let’s check out the deets:

Buffalo 3, Indianapolis 2

Chris Schwinden was surprisingly effective, giving up 1 run on just 3 hits over 7 innings.  Robert Carson got the final 4 outs, striking out 2 and allowing 1 hit as he earned his first AAA save.  Lucas May was 2 for 4 with a double and all 3 RBI’s.  Matt Den Dekker was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Lucas Duda had the day off.

Binghamton 6, Portland 2

Mark Cohoon got his 6th win of the year letting up just 2 runs over 5.2 innings, as he finished off a very good July.  Frank Francisco gave up a bunt single, but pitched a scoreless 7th inning.  Dustin Martin and Juan Centeno each had 2 RBI’s.  Sean Kazmar homered.  Juan Lagares, Wilmer Flores, and Jefry Marte each had a single.

Lakeland 6, St. Lucie 4

Logan Verrett made his St. Lucie debut and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts.  Both Hamilton Bennett and Jeffrey Walters gave up 2 runs out of the bullpen, costing St. Lucie the game.  The Lucies scored 4 runs on just 2 hits: a single by T.J. Rivera and a double by Alonzo Harris.  Harris also stole his 27th base of the season, which is good for 4th in the FSL.

Rome 6, Savannah 2

Marcos Camaerna filled in for the recently promoted Logan Verrett and let in 5 runs on 10 hits, including 2 homeruns.  The sputtering Gnats offense managed just 4 hits, with Charley Thurber drove in both runs.

Brooklyn 10, Mahoning Valley 5

Brandon Nimmo had a huge game going 4 for 6 with a double, homer, and 2 RBI’s.  Phillip Evans and Julio Concepcion also homered and had 3 hits each.  Evans ended up with 4 RBI’s although his season line is just .232/.315/.341.  Julian Hilario started but only lasted 3 innings.  Beck Wheeler pitched the next 3 innings, striking out 6 and getting the win.

Johnson City 6, Kingsport 2

Chris Flexen was decent, giving up 3 runs over 6 innings, but he took the loss.  The K-Mets offense had 4 hits and 10 strikeouts.  Gavin Cecchini and Brad Marquez each had a single.

good news that FFF managed to pitch an inning without hurting himself.

I could have sworn I saw an article early yesterday about a FF setback with the oblique injury. Then I read later he actually did pitch. I guess the idea now is to see if he can pitch a couple of sessions, maybe even back to back, without another setback.

Hilario… Fantastic last name. Let the Hilario ensue…

The Mets have two Hilario’s. Julian, a pitcher for Brooklyn and Manuel, a catch in the DSL.

They’re both Dominican. Other than that, no idea.
