Mets beat Giants 2-1: I’m too tired to be clever here

Box Score

The Mets beat the Giants by a score of 2-1 tonight at AT&T Park.

I’ll be brief because I am exhausted, and this game did not have too much to discuss.

This game literally could not have started better for the Mets as Ruben Tejada hit his first HR of the season to start the game. Jonathan Niese decided that would be enough as he would go 7 innings, only allowing a home run to Buster Posey. That has been Niese’s downfall all year so at least that was predictable.

The Mets would pick up another run on a Jordany Valdespin groundout, but the story was that they ran Matt Cain out of the game by the 5th inning.

The 8th inning was a traumatic experience because of both the sleep deprivation and awful managing/umping/luck. Basically the Mets under similar circumstances would have scored multiple runs 99/100 times, but alas, tonight was not the night. Horrible choices to bunt, horrible base-running, horrible situational hitting; I envy those of you that elected sleep over the 8th inning.

The bottom of the 8th would be an uncharacteristically stress-free outing by the pen’. Byrdak would retire Gregor Blanco and Jon Rauch would get the next two to send it the game to the ninth.

Despite a Fire Time tease, Bobby Parnell would come in to close the 9th.

In the top of the 9th however, the Mets would load the bases for Jason Bay. He would hit the hardest ball he has since returning from the DL and it would be caught by Penny, and they would double off Murphy at first base.

Parnell would post a 1-2-3 ninth and the Mets would win.

Nice job with the fast recap Spencer. Now get some sleep. :-)

Well pitched game by Niese. BP good. How often have we seen this?

The offense, on the other hand….Holy LOB guys.
I think we broke a record for bases loaded 4 times and not scoring.

Whatever. A win is a win and I’ll take it.

    Let’s take the series tomorrow.

nice job by the pen, which for the most part lately has been a recurring theme.

and I mostly got the flavor of the top of the 8th from the diehards in the dugout (I only had gameday up, and it kept freezing), but needless to say, the natives were very restless! I went to bed after that and missed the ending (Bay failing again? Shocker)

Terry might be a nice guy, and good at the rah rah stuff, but as a tactical manager, he has issues. I was dumbfounded that he tried to bunt with Baxter. Just go for breaking it open you old fart! If for no other reason, you want to do whatever you can to get this pen as many runs as possible.

I still will not mind seeing Murphy moved for needed help at other positions.

I agree on Murph. I do like the guy and if this team didn’t have 75 LH batters, there would definitely be a place for him…

“Just go for breaking it open you old fart!”

If someone was dumb when they were young they will be dumb when they’re old. OTOH if they were smart when they were young, provided Senility or Alzheimer has not taken hold, they will be smart when they’re old. The major advantage in getting old and for which you will be very grateful is you will be able to claim Senility or Alzheimer disease in defense of your comments. :-)

The offense is really lucky that the bullpen and defense held on for the win. If they had lost by a run or two, all those bases loaded failures would’ve looked even more horrid.

well, it is a team game!

Yea yeah. Just felt like dumping on the offense for that atrocious performance last night.

But my boy Ruben came through!!! Yeah!
