Final Score: Mets 9, Giants 1
Player Of The Game: Ronny Cedeno- 3-for-5, 5 RBI, 2 triples
Goat Of The Game: Normally, if there’s no clear goat, I would just pick Jason Bay, but even he drove in two runs…
Notes:
- Chris Young was dominant. Young tossed seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits. He also didn’t walk a single batter.
- Daniel Murphy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- The Mets got to Zito early, (as you can see on the wonderful chart above) scoring four runs in the first inning. In total, Zito lasted just 4.1 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits.He also walked three batters.
- For once, a Mets game wasn’t stressful!
- The Mets finish off their west coast swing with a series in San Diego, which starts tomorrow night at 10:05. R.A. Dickey (14-2, 2.83 ERA) will go up against Clayton Richard (7-11, 4.14 ERA)

Fast and great write up. Someone needs to send Cerrone a link; actually it should be sent to SNY along with the inevitable mess over at MB.
gotta run,

That was fun. Took the game and the series.
We got pitching today, offense and defense. Lately it’s a rare day when all three things are clicking.
Good job by Young and the bats.

so, take the 3 in SD (the Padres really do suck), and finish the west coast swing 8-2 (that is shocking to even think about). And send a message.
Problem is, what is the message, and who will get it?
I know the “sandy is the worst GM in the history of sports and the devil incarnate” crowd will certainly jump on it to say he should have added 3 stud RPs a month ago. But with the SP off the rails would it have really mattered, when for the most part the pen has been OK for the last couple months?
He did add one good RP (Edgin). And gets another back tomorrow.
still a couple post ASG deals might have won them a few more games, if they could have swung them early. That is a maybe, and a big if.
but, all along I have said that if this team was going to surprise people and make a run toward the WC (or mid-80s win respectability) it was the guys in the organization that were going to have to do it (like Bay).
and right now, the SP seems to have stabilized (thank you Neise and Harvey) if Young can hang in there,. And the pen is vastly improved already, and if FFF can come back doing what he did, it no longer scares me either (thank you Edgin!).
now if they just had a viablie OF… The IF overall is good, and I love that they brought Kingman back to play 1B, but I was surprised to see he was now hitting lefty.

8-2 west coast swing? Wouldn’t 2-2 vs AZ, 3-1 vs SF and 3-0 vs SD be 8-3? And the only message that sends is the team isn’t really as bad as they were during the 6-game losing streaks, which was never in doubt (just like they’re not really as good as their 8-games over .500 stretch in the first half).

Good series. I’ve always harbored a hate for the Giants without really knowing why. (Besides Cain, I know why I dislike him. And seriously? NOT ONE pitcher could zing one by Posey’s melon?)
On to San Diego where we should get 2/3, but seeing as how we like to play down to the opponents level, getting swept would not be a total shock.
…If only SA had turned Valdy into Halladay and Hamels and Duda into Zach Greinke. He obviously wants to lose…..(end sarcasm) =D

If Valdy and Duda brought that type of return, Wright could net you the entire major and minor league roster of the Colorado Rockies!
Good win, all around. Now it’s time to attack the Friars. Also, I love the SD ball park, with the factory right beyond the stadium in LF. One of the cooler parks, for sure.
