The New York Mets announced the results of examinations to Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Rob Johnson and Tim Byrdak who were examined today by doctors in New York.
Nieuwenhuis has a partial tear of the plantar facia in his right foot. He will go to St Lucie for rehab and no surgery is expected at this time.
Johnson has a contusion to the right hand and is day to day.
Byrdak suffered the toughest news finding out he has a anterior capsule tear. Surgery remains a possibility and his season is most likely over.

Jeez, the Met’s Johnson is broken, no wonder they faltered in San Diego.
and, is it really any surprise Byrdak’s got a shoulder tear considering his overuse in the first half. Sad and predictable with only one lefty in the pen most of the season – not like we all didn’t see this coming.

I would say his season, and likely career, are over for Byrdak. Tough way to go.

he is pretty old for a MLB player, so can’t say he didn’t get a full career in. And I expect he will be able to pay the rent for at least a few years yet!
too bad though they didn’t trade him to the Yankees before he got hurt…

Looks like they brought up Olsen, and his sparkling .270 mark vs. Lefties. What a negative Nancy I am this morning.

Agree. Given the injury and his age, his career may likely be over.
When I saw the interview on what Byrdak felt when he last pitched in his shoulder, I knew the MRI wasn’t going to yield good news. Kind of ironic that of the 5 pitchers I know of who suffered this injury, 3 pitched for the Mets.

Kirk is weak! RA pitched with that same injury last season.
I joke, I joke.
