Final Score: Marlins 13, Mets 0
Player Of The Game: David Wright- 2-for-4
Goat Of The Game: Chris Young- 4.1 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 87 pitches (54 strikes)
Notes:
- Chris Young was awful. He left up a few hanging breaking pitches and they were crushed. There’s not much more to say than that…
- The Met offense was shut down again today. They didn’t score a single run and only scratched out five hits. The offense has been very inconsistent of late. They may be as much to blame for the past few weeks as anybody. They can’t score runs on a consistent basis. On nights like this, it is irrelevant because the Marlins scored 13, but the Mets couldn’t score a single run off a so-so rookie pitcher and a bad bullpen. That’s unacceptable.
- Ramon Ramirez and Jeremy Hefner both pitched well out of the bullpen, but it all went downhill from there. Garrett Olson gave up four runs on three hits in the eighth inning, giving the Marlins an 11-0 lead. In the ninth, Frank Francisco gave up a two-run homer to Greg Dobbs to make it 13-0.
- Giancarlo Stanton and Jose Reyes both had big games for Miami. Stanton hit two home runs and a double. Jose Reyes was just 1-for-3, but hit a solo home run in the first and then scored another run in the fifth inning. He also extended his hitting streak to 26 games.
- What a rough game… It doesn’t get much worse than this.

Brutal.
Young was awful and 6 relievers to finish out the game.
The offense was M.I.A.
Are we ever going to win a game at home again this season?

I’m absolutely not buying the attendance of 26,193. The place looked empty to me.
I think to really cheez off Reyes they should unintentionally intentionally walk him 4 times tomorrow to end his hitting streak. From Flushing with love Jose.

They’re probably counting advance sales. The amount of people in the ballpark was probably considerable less.

Young is smoke and mirrors with zero margin for error. So games like tonight are not at all surprising.

NOOO!!!!! 85 miles per hour is DOMINATION!!!! Oh, wait, we’re being rational here. Of course Young is going to get shelled when he’s not 110% spot on. I’m so glad I missed this game.

I’m not entirely sure the Win Probability should begin at 50% if Young is pitching.

Some of TC’s comments after the game last night:
As for the nine-game home skid, Collins said: “You remember last year we didn’t play good at home. It was a huge concern of mine last year, due to the fact the ballpark was so big, and the kind of game we played, where we ran the bases and we didn’t have a lot of power. And we just didn’t play good here. Right now, you know, the ballpark is reconfigured. We had confidence playing here the first half. Right now there’s nothing we do that’s right. So this is when you cinch up your belt, reach inside, find out what you’re made of, find out who wants to compete the last 50 games at the end of the season, because those are the guys you’re going to want on the team.”

Yeah, it’s all about effort right now and guys show casing their talent and motivation to possibly secure a spot on the roster next season.
And he’s right…..nothing to see here for this season in regards to competing. I’m just hoping they can play well enough to finish at .500 and in front of the Marlins and Phils.

It’s stuff like this that gets managers fired.

Unless Wright pulls a Dwight Howard and demands Collins fired then he will be here next year even if the only win 68.

true. considering the FO is taking the winter off anyway, there won’t be anyone around to fire the manager or look for a replacement. And they certainly are not paying 2 guys for the same job. So for sure next year Terry will be back, penciling in Bay in LF and botching in-game moves.

My predictions: TC will be back w/o a doubt but Bay will not.
The FO had no problem cutting Perez and Castillo together – for a total of what? 16 MIL that season?
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say the FO will have a problem cutting Bay at 18 MIL.
Goes w/o saying though it might not be totally up to SA. Have no idea right now how much input the Wilpons will force with this kind of decision.

Jeeze…
Meant I don’t think it’s a stretch to say the FO will NOT have a problem cutting Bay, even with that salary.

I would think Bay’s either moved in the offseason, or given every chance to get back into playing shape and if he isn’t cutting it in Spring Training, then he’ll be DFA’d.
Terry will be back, but without an extension.

I agree about Terry. I never thought he was a LT guy anyway. A few years back, he was on record as not wanting to manage again, and seemed real happy as the organizational coordinator guy. I could see him sliding back into that type of role after next season.
Sandy and Terry were just temporary bridge guys (get the ship stabilized?) hires anyway IMO, and neither one really wants to hang around long.
