Terry Collins Pre Game Press Conference 08-07-12

Here is footage from the pre game press conference that Mets Manager, Terry Collins held yesterday.

Terry discussed everything from the return of Jose Reyes, how good of a replacement Reuben Tejada is and how he will also use the struggling Jason Bay.

Terry also admitted he had overused Tim Byrdak – who is now facing the same surgery that Johan Santana and Chris Young underwent for a torn anterior capsule.

No way! Terry did not manage the BP correctly? Get out of town! I am just flabbergasted…

OK so are team is lifeless and dead and it’s the first week of August. Super.

Glad I gave away my tickets for tomorrows game. I’m going to start watching the attendance levels as opposed to the score.

At this point, I’d rather see Hefner than Young every 5 days – and that is a measure of how low my modest expectations for the season have sunk.

Aren’t you aware that with TC’s leadership qualities this team never quits, they always play hard, it “balls to the walls,” etc., etc., and so-forth.

The lack of major league talent on this team is stunning. Not that I didn’t already know that but on a looksie at the stats I love to see what kind of what I consider quirky things that pop out. Tonight the thought that there are only 2 players on the team with over 50 RBI’s and that Mike Nickeas has only 3 less RBI’s then Thole in like 130 less AB’s. And we know how craptastic Nickeas is. So aside from needing a catcher an entirely new starting outfield, a bullpen and a couple of starters everythings going swimingly.

Terry did what he could with what he had and he ran what few working pieces into the ground but in the end it was all just a matter of time. They are quickly trending to my 73 win guesstimate which would be sad. But hey, we got that hip new Felix Mignon sandwich.

Precisely. TC would win with talent but so would Jerry Manuel and for that matter so would Art Howe (if you don’t believe me see his managerial record with Oakland). I said it before that there are times when a specific manager complements a specific team but without talent it’s all a moot point.

The only word I can think of to describe this team’s performance level right now is pathetic. And believe me I’m not bitter like some or a pessimist. It’s unfortunate but this is what the season has become. I don’t take these games personally like some. But it’s no longer a source of entertainment and for that I am sorry. Hopefully they have hit rock bottom.

Exactly spot on and I share the exact same sentiment. My wife comes in and is like “why are you still watching them???” You’re right, there is little joy in mudville.

I think I’ll get really depressed and go check my work e-mail….

Awaiting the sequestration, oy. Or as my quip goes, “The Mayan’s weren’t predicting the end of the world they were just predicting the sequestration, man they were good”.

Under the Clinton administration the defense industry took a beating and the massive layoffs in the Engineering community filtered back to the Universities and the result is that very few of our R&D engineers are American born. But I fear after what may come the Clinton years may be comparatively boon years for Defense Engineers. I was watching the celebration at NASA over the Mars landing and thought in two weeks most of them will probably be laid off. I think the timing of my retirement was most fortuitous.

good thing my son is studying materials science engineering. Since he graduates in 2013, and I really want him to get a job!
