This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Footage From Yesterdays 2013 All Star Game Logo Unveiling” Edition 08-08-12

Yesterday I had the honor of being invited by the Mets to witness the unveiling of the logo for the 2013 All Star Game which will be held at our very own Citi Field.

Mets announcers, Howie Rose and Gary Cohen acted as emcees for the event, which saw former Mets All Stars such as Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, Dwight Gooden and John Franco – along with current All Star’s David Wright, Johan Santana, R.A Dickey and manager, Terry Collins.

Mets Owner and C.E.O, Jeff Wilpon, along with M.L.B Executive Vice President, Timothy Brosnan and Deputy Mayor Patricia E. Harris all spoke of the importance of the Mid Season Classic’s return to the Big Apple.

and as a added bonus here is one time Mets pitching phenom, Dwight Gooden talking to reporters
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

One time bench coach and the 9th manager in Mets history ( half of the ’83 season),Frank Howard is 86(1936). “Hondo” was one of the most prolific hitters of the 1960′s.

Middle reliever from the ’98 season, John Hudek is 46(1966).

The New York Mets traded spot starter/middle reliever, Frank Lary to the Milwaukee Braves for spot starter/middle reliever, Dennis Ribant on August 8, 1964.

The New York Mets traded minor league outfield prospect, Rob Katzaroff to the San Francisco Giants for outfielder, Kevin Bass on August 8, 1992.

The New York Mets traded outfielder, Lance Johnson, pitcher, Mark Clark and utility infielder, Manny Alexander to the Chicago Cubs for middle reliever, Turk Wendell, Mel Rojas and and outfielder, Brian McRae on August 8, 1997. Yes we lost the potent bat and blazing speed of Johnson – but we picked up the eclectic and effective Wendell who was a contributing factor for the Mets success in the ’99 & ’00 post seasons.

Mo Vaughn was supposed to attend yesterdays press conference – but he got distracted  by the new Fillet Mignon sandwich stand that opened in the outfield area !!!
