Last night on the farm Zack Wheeler made his second AAA start, Jacob DeGrom was fantastic in his St. Lucie debut, and Brandon Nimmo returned to the Cyclones lineup with a good performance. Let’s take a look:
Scranton/WB 5, Buffalo 1
Zack Wheeler was good for 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Then the bullpen came in and gave the game away. Matt Den Dekker was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored; Den Dekker is 6 for 11 in his last 3 games. Lucas Duda has been absent the past 3 games.
Harrisburg 5, Binghamton 4
Armando Rodriguez got the spot start and gave up 2 runs over 4 innings, although he has been much better out of the bullpen this year. Brad Holt struck out 4 over 2 innings, but allowed a solo homerun; Holt is quietly having a nice second half. Brandon Moore gave up the game-winning run in the bottom of the 9th. Wilmer Flores was 3 for 5 with a double. All B-Mets starters except Wilfredo Tovar had at least 1 hit, including the pitcher Rodriguez.
St. Lucie 3, Fort Myers 0
Fresh off a promotion from Savannah Jacob DeGrom gave up 1 hit and 4 walks over 7 innings while striking out 8. John Church pitched 2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Alonzo Harris had a triple while playing both centerfield and second base (that’s some good versatility). Danny Muno, Cory Vaughn, and Richard Lucas all had doubles. Blake Forsythe drove in 2 runs.
Savannah was rained out. If you’ve ever been to Savannah in the summer, this shouldn’t be a surprise.
Brooklyn 6, Vermont 3
Brandon Nimmo returned to the lineup after sitting out a few days and went 2 for 4 from the leadoff spot with a double and a walk. Phillip Evans, Kevin Plawecki, and Eudy Pina also had 2 hits each. Plawecki and Pina each homered. Julian Hilario pitched 5 good innings, allowing just 1 run while striking out 5. Beck Wheeler struck out 3 in 2 hitless innings of relief while Paul Sewald continued his scoreless streak and picked up his 4th save of the year; Sewald’s innings are being limited, but he should be starting next year.
Danville 9, Kingsport 4
Chris Flexen lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits. Juan Urbina pitched a scoreless innings out of the bullpen with 2 walks and a strikeout. Yeixon Ruiz and Jorge Rivero had 2 hits each. Jonathan Leroux hit a 2-run homer.
