    they battled?

and at least I am enjoying seeing Shoppach out there.

And nice to see Bay right back in his groove.

now, win tomorrow baby, since I get that game in person!

Reports about discussions regarding shutting Santana down on the horizon according to Rubin. His time off doesn’t seem to have helped as far as the quality of his starts having given up 8 and 6 runs in his last 2 starts since coming off dl.

Santana including tonight now has a 15.63/ERA over his last 5 starts. The Mets not surprising are 0-5 in those games.

I would give him a few more starts at this point and if he is still struggling, shut him down for September, and let him get ready to come out for a full, normal year in 2013.

Well, the only people expecting him to come back from that surgery and layoff from pitching and stay healthy/effective all year were Ceetarian. What is this, 5 straight starts with 6 or more runs? Granted, the theory that the no-hitter threw him off is bogus, but he ain’t right at the moment. That’s obvious.

The season is long over. Might as well let him keep going and see if he can figure something out.

Interesting interview after the game with War then. He was encouraged by the start last night. Said the first 50 pitches or so were good. After that probably fatigue setting in.
They’re gonna sit down with Johan and see where they go from here. But he believes it’s just a matter of further building up strength and stamina in that shoulder/arm.

If they’re onto something there, maybe with another six months during the off season that arm will be stronger and he will be a serviceable pitcher next year. We can only hope since we’re stuck with that contract.

The laugh out load moment for me last night was in the pre-game when Carlin was stating to the effect, “a big start tonight for Johan and how the results may effect the teams off season plans”.

What a joke. Now correlating Johan’s performance in the remaining part of the season as to whether the Mets spend or not in the off season. Chris, what, ya think we just tuned in here? They’re broke, they ain’t spending squat and what Johan does ain’t got nuttin’ to do with nuttin’ for off season spending. What are we supposed to believe by that inference that if Johan tanks the rest of the year they are all of a sudden going to run out and spend on a FA Starter. Just ludicrous shilling for the home network. But then again if I was a ginormous fat bald sportscaster with the telegenic appeal of a rotting armadillo I might say whatever I have to to maintain my gig. Alright that was harsh on my part but stop pissing on my shoes and telling me it’s raining and then I’ll be my normal civil self.

Oh, and I’m so encouraged by Warthens statement that apart from the losing I’m really encouraged by what I saw tonight. Bleech. All I expect from Johan is to be a serviceable #5 for next year. That’s it. Against lesser teams he may dominate, against really good ones they’ll light up that 88 mph fastball. Just pencil him in healthy for #5 next year and I’m good. The rest of the team, not so much.
