So all I’ve heard for the past month is how the Mets don’t have an outfield….some have gone so far as to say that they don’t even have ONE professional outfielder.
Today’s Question: Let’s say you had the money or the chips to acquire one qualified outfielder. Do it! Who would you like to have patrolling either Center, Right and Left field?

If you have the money you go for Upton, he is the only good thing on the FA market. Economical then maybe a hunter.
Here is the issue with all of this, Rubin is reporting that payroll will go unchanged from a “Source”. IF that is true you need to cover ARB for Murph, Ike and Parnell while only have 12m left to spend. In a situation with so many glaring holes and no money, FA’s like Hunter and Upton would probably choose another place to go.

Even though this was a fantasy type question, I have to agree with Salty here that we’re just not going to have the money this off season to go after the high end guys.
That being said even if we had the money I’d pass on Hamilton. Wouldn’t mind trying to go after Bourne if it was reasonable.
Going to have to get creative with a trade or two. I wonder if they rumors are really serious about trading Justin Upton – and what the real story is with his attitude?
I believe though we’re probably going to try patching one together like this year – which isn’t going to make me happy. Wilpons need to open their checkbook. I’m not saying we have to overspend but it takes spending a bit of money to make money. Especially when we really need an entire OF – need to get at least one starter there.
I’d bring Baxter and Hairston back but I’m waiting to see if they place Hairston on the waiver wire by the end of this month.

upton (Justin) though is not a cheap contract. So he costs you prospects like a quality trade, then $$ like a FA would.

I really don’t like this question since the hypotheticals of us all of a sudden having money and trading chips aren’t even close to happening. It’s one thing to at least have the false belief that a team has assets to have it a certainty that they don’t via briefing files in the courts. Anyway, I’ll play so as to uphold the weekly debate:
If I’m smoking pixie dust and buy into the parameters of the question then I also have to imagine that Josh Hamilton has no demons to battle and I’m signing Hamilton and trading for Upton. There we go instant outfield with one of the premier power bats in the league.

what happened to making up our own questions? I kind of liked that.

Trying to keep this in the realm of reality, I would not mind seeing either Upton. They would each serve a need.
So, I will say if they have a bit of money to play with, if they can get him at a reasonable cost give B.J. a shot. So that is one spot (RF I guess).
Then, keeping in mind overall needs and resources, 1 spot will go to an internal option(s).
the other one? I would like to see a creative trade for someone younger and not hugely expensive. No clue who, but not a guy where you are paying for the name value, or past history (like Bay).
so this could be some combo of Duda/Hairston/lagares/Kirk for 1 spot and bench, B.J. upton for RF, and the new guy for either LF or CF.
Oh, maybe that Burjous guy on the Angels that a few posters mention constantly. he would fit the profile.
so lets go with him in CF, Upton in RF, and Duda/Hairston in LF. Baxter for a bench spot?

Assuming the Mets have the resources then I would finance cloning Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente. Considering that on the present course of action the Mets should be competitive in 22 years just when this outfield would be ready to patrol the Citi.
